SOURCE: Error Epson RX 595- Close the Scanner Unit
I just had the same problem. I figured that there must be a lever that gets pushed in when the lid closes and sure enough there's a square hole in the vent area (look in the area below the serial number) and in that is a small lever is that gets pushed down by the piece that's attached to the lid. For some reason, it's not pushing it down far enough or the lever has bent and it doesn't connect. My only solution (for now) was to jam a pencil into the lever to push it down all the way and sure enough, it worked. I'm sure there's a better, more permanent (and more attractive) way to repair this, but for now, it works and I need to print out 60 copies of an event program for tomorrow night! Good luck!

If you are scanning wirelessly, you have to launch the epson scan software from your computer and scan to e-mail from there. You can scan using either professional or home mode.
Please take note that scanning from the printer only supports direct connection, which means you have to plug in the printer to your computer via a usb cable.
If you cannot launch epson scan, please let me know. And include the operating system that you are using too.

I just had the same issue but with the 810, which is basically the same. What I had done before that happened was turn on the "Automatic Head Maintenance", then after turning on the printer again the next time the error happened always a few seconds after it started...really frustrating.
The solution was turning off the "Automatic Head Maintenance". Do this as soon as you have access to the menu, because after a few seconds it will show the error and the touch menu will not work anymore. So as soon as the touch menu shows press Setup > Maintenance >Automatic Head Maintenance and turn it off.
Please reply and let me know if it works.
