I have a Garmin Nuvi205W, and whenever i press a button or it spaks, a snowy sound comes out for half a second - every time. The best way to describe it is a fuzzy/snowy sound. The actual system sounds work fine, and the voice sounds are fine. this certain sound just comes out w/ it and lasts about a half second longer then the systems normal sounds do.I have adjusted the volue from low to high, and it does it at all levels, except mute. I returned my Garmin and bought another Nuvi 205w, and it does the same thing. My friends Garmin does NOT do it. Does anybody else experience this? i have looked through all settings and cannot find anything to help this. If this is common and i just have to ignore it, thats fine - just let me know if it is and i will be able to get over it ! :)

Ok so I decided I was going to return this thing tomorrow after hours of frustration, so I decided to get crazy with it and then figured out something that seems to have worked (will probably still exchange it for a Magellan or something other than Garmin though).
It's gonna sound crazy, but I opened up the Garmin drive on my computer (Mac, so not sure how this works on PC), and deleted everything I could see (not hidden files). EVERYTHING.
I then went ran Disk Utility and reformated the "Hard Drive" (on PC I would guess your able to do the same somehow). It still ran after that, but obviously could not find maps (since I just wiped every trace of a map away).
Next step, I ran Garmin Map Manager and transfered map for my state (AZ) (I have the latest map update saved on my computer, so I'm guessing Manager used that). Unplugged from comp, powered up, and voila! I will need to download my voices and vehicles again, but hey at least it's working again.

Here is the solution
touch the screen in the right bottom and turn the device on keep the screen pressed. when it asks to reset data select yes

Your unit most likely has a firmware error, which could be due to a corrupt file. To solve it you yourself can try to update the firmware when connecting to the pc, if the unit cannot stay on enough for this to be performed, your unit will have to be sent in to service.

Just so you know:
Sorry, no free maps. I know I've tried. You either live with
the old map or buy the latest version.
I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR
Garmin before you load any maps.
You can get that FREE at Garmin here:

To download the latest unit
software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater
After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin
website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect
your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your
computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start",
"Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to
do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.
Does this help? Let us know. Thanks.
