Not sure how to connect the magnum sg spool gun

The diagram is not very good to see how the wires are arranged to use the spool gun for aluminum repairs. Can you help, a new diagram or somewhere I can see a decent picture? Thanks.

connect the + lead to the spool gun so that there is power at the end of the wire to make the arc
there should have been a user manual showing how to connect it into the system

Hi:
No, it's not made to run a soft wire like aluminum. If you do it the wire will nest making a ball of wire at the drive rolls. All machines have spool guns made specially for aluminum wire, I haven't seen one made for C.H.
If you want to run the risk, try the following:
a) Use straight argon gas. b) Use a 0.35 size wire c) Always try to maintain the gun cable straight while doing the welding.
Spool of aluminum wire will cost you around 10 bucks.

Hi:

You should only reverse polarity only if, before you were using innershield wire on the same MIG welder.
Your gun should be connected to + and ground to negative and you should use a spool gun for it.

Argon gas is ok, but for thick metals 1/4" and above you should use a mix of 75/25 argon/helium.

I have a 50A spoolgun and wc-24 controll box, but i cain't adjust the heat, and it is way to hot, any ideas as to what the problem may be. it worked fine one day and the next day it was too hot and...

The control box for the spool gun it's just an adapter to feed the right voltage to the wire feed motor, the heat (voltage) must be adjusted from the three knobs:
1) Process Contactor knob must be dial on wire feeder CV using remote.
2) Polarity Must be set on DC
3) Voltage, depends on thickness of your work piece and wire gage, but 20 volts must be enough for up to 1/4" thickness and 035 4043 aluminum.

I never heard of a 50A spool gun, probably you meant 30A.

If your voltage it's erratic check the following:

Clean and tighten connections both inside and outside unit.

Check and secure lead connections to remote control.

Be sure connection to work piece is clean and tight.
Remove excessive coils from weld cables.

If continues to be too high (hot) and can't control it, then you should send your machine to be checked that's probably a problem with the PC1 or PC2.

Need to know how to get my clark welder to weld aluminum model we6527

Using a Spool gun and an adaptor to your welder is better, but you need to open your wallet and spend at least 600 bucks. The modest way to go is:

1) change the gun liner to a teflon kind one instead of steel.
2) Change your drive rolls for knurled one instead of grooved.
3) oversize your contact tip for more wire feed freedom.
4) use straight argon gas.
5) use aluminum 4043 type 035 size.
And always try to maintain your gun lead as straight as you can.

The F 1 circuit breaker, manual reset is tripping not allowing it to weld. Could it be something as simple as the reset itself

-The material of the job
-And the proper amperage to use for the material.
-For aluminum you will use A/C
-Stainless Steele / Chrome Molly D/C

Aluminum MIG Welding
1. The best feeding of wire for aluminum is done with a spool gun. If you can't use a spool gun, use the shortest gun possible and keep the gun as straight as possible. Use Argon only for shielding gas. Only use a push gun technique when welding aluminum. 2. If you are having feeding problems, one thing you can try is a contact tip that is one size bigger than your wire. 3. The most common wire type is ER4043 for all-purpose work. ER5356 is a stiffer wire (easier to feed), and is used when more rigid, higher-strength weld properties are needed. 4. Clean the aluminum before welding, to remove the oxide layer. Use a stainless steel wire brush used only for cleaning aluminum. 5. Fill the crater at the end of the weld to avoid a crack. One way to do this is to dwell in the weld pool for a second at the end of the weld.

Welding aluminum and wire keepscoming out of rollers

your hobart machine it's not suit up for standard aluminum welding, the lenght of the gun it's too long therefore the wire will nest at the drive rolls. You need to buy a spool gun. Or change gun liner for a teflon one (instead of metal one), then change the drive roll for knurled ones and finally oversize your tip if you can. No need to do ALL this if you buy a spool gun.
