I have an Amana heat pump and I noticed that the blower motor wasn’t running anymore. So I replaced the start-up capacitor and when I turned the breaker back on it started right up and was running for about a 1 min, then the motor sounded like it was dying out. Eventually the blower would stop and "hum". I tried installing the old capacitor and the results are the same. I did notice if I turned the breakers off for 5 or so minutes and turn it on, the blower would start up again and die out. But if the breakers were switched off and back on, the blower wouldn’t do anything, so it seems like something is heating up and cutting power to the blower. Also the trouble light is flashing "6" = system error. I appreciate your help in advance!!

When it does this carefully feel the end of the blower motor. If it is too hot to touch,Replace the blower motor.
Your 5 minute off sequence allows the motor to cool enough for a restart.
No on the cap. You must use the correct one or burn up the new motor.

You have a collapsed return vent or a bad lint buildup on the evaporator coil.
Take the access door off the air handler and run the fan. If you have airflow through the vents then, you have a incoming air blockage. If not you have a supply side blockage.
That may have been the problem with the other motor as well.

Bad motor Jason , they will run their best cooled down which is why this is happening. Replace the motor and cap. for the fix.

yes it was warm so I pulled the motor out and looked at the bearing housing, it was back (burned). So I went and bought a motor but this one calls for a 5 mF capacitor but I already have a 10mF can I still use my 10 mF cap??? Thanks for all your help!

Thanks very for every ones help! I changed the motor and cap and everything seems to be running now. BUT now it seems as though no air is moving in the vents!!! The old motor was rated at 870 RPM and the new one is rated @ 1075 RPM (and a lot nosier!). I hooked the motor up on med. speed and didn't notice air moving from the vents so I put the motor on high speed and no change in air movement. I checked the amp draw when the motor was hooked up to low, med and high speed, and the amp draw increases with each speed respectively, so I take it that the motor is indeed spinning faster. The direction of rotation is correct because I checked that too with a piece of string and it is sucking air through the squirrel cage. Sooo what else could it be?????
OK I'm an idiot!! I double check the blower rotation and I had the motor wired wrong! I switched the rotation and everything is working like it should!! ( and its quieter too!)
