I would say that you line the marks up together between the gears. One gear should have two mars and the other gear should have one mark put the one mark between the two marks

Set the No. 1 cylinder to TDC/compression. A. Set the timing mark to 0 on the timing chain cover by rotating the crankshaft clockwise. B. Verify the timing marks on the camshaft timing gears are in general alignment with the timing marks of the camshaft bearing cap: TIMING MARK IDENTIFICATION CYLINDER BANK INTAKE GEAR MARK EXHAUST GEAR MARK RH Bank (Bank 1) Small Mark Single Line LH Bank (Bank 2) Large Mark Double Line HINT When the engine is correctly timed, the timing marks will NOT perfectly align. Component Removal Guidelines 1. If engine disassembly is required that involves removing the camshafts or timing gears, set the #1 cylinder to TDC compression, wipe away any oil, and mark the following items in relation to each other prior to disassembly: • Timing gears • Timing chain • Timing chain No. 2 NOTE This relationship MUST be maintained. If NEW camshaft timing gears or the No. 2 timing chain are being installed, the two yellow links on the No. 2 timing chain can be used to ensure correct relationship between the intake timing gear and the exhaust timing gear. Figure 7. 1 1 Yellow Link A. Align the paint mark on the timing chain with the intake gear timing mark (to ensure the intake gear is correctly timed to the crankshaft). Figure 8. Align the two yellow links on the No. 2 timing chain to the timing marks on

these bend valves if belt breaks while running
Align the timing marks on the camshaft gears to the notches on the camshaft cover, using the intake gear mark for the intake gear and the exhaust gear mark for the exhaust gear.
Align the mark on the crankshaft gear with the
notch at the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.

The crankshaft gear has a center punch mark on gear and the intermediate gear has a line mark on gear. Rotate the crank until the #1 piston is top dead center. In doing so the crankshaft mark should line up with the intermediate gear mark. (crankshaft mark at 1 oclock and intermediate gear mark at 7 oclock). At the same time look at the cam gear and the small hole should be at the top and the two larger holes should align with the bearing cap. ((parting line should be looking at it will be 50/50 when you look at the front of cam gear). Remember to remove belt before timing engine correctly. Also make sure the negative wire is disconnected from battery before starting this job. Hope this will help you.

On cam gear there's a punch mark, line that mark at 9 oclock there's a timing mark on cylinder head, crank gear, in back of crank gear is a plate with a (v) cut line gear at 11 oclock there's a timing mark on front case, gear to right of crank gear has a (v) cut on it, line it at about 11 oclock at timing mark on front case, adj tensioner and your done.Good Luck.

Timing belt removed, static timing was not set before removing timing belt.

[Set Static Timing:
No.1 piston is brought up to TDC before removing timing belt.

Cam gear has a punchmark on face of gear, and this mark aligns with one single tooth. There is a matching punchmark on the Timing Belt Rear Upper Cover.

Facing the cam gear, the mark is to the upper right. There is an 'egg shape' of the timing belt upper rear cover, in this spot. This punchmark is in that 'egg shape', and is close to a bolt hole. The cam gear mark lines up with the Timing Belt Rear Upper Cover, mark.

The crankshaft gear has a punchmark on the face. It lines up with one single tooth. There is a corresponding punchmark on the lower right side. An alignment mark)

Should be a round punchmark on the face of the crankshaft gear. It lines up with a single tooth. Wipe the gear clean, use a little carb cleaner. (NO flames, or sparks nearby, well ventilated area)

Barring you cannot find the crankshaft mark, find the camshaft alignment marks, make sure they are aligned with the alignment, (Punchmark), on the Timing Upper Rear Cover.

Count the teeth in the timing belt. There should be 133 teeth on the belt.

There is 43 teeth in-between the timing mark of the camshaft, and the timing mark on the crankshaft.

(43 teeth in-between the Right Side Camshaft mark to crankshaft mark, 43 teeth in-between the Left Side Camshaft mark to crankshaft mark)

There should be 40 teeth in-between the two cam gears.

The only other thing could the the timing belt tensioner if there is any doubt. Here's the timing marks.

Mark are on the crank and cam timing gears. Cam gear mark at 12 o"clock crank gear mark lined up with TGC mark on block when installing timing belt.

There should be marks stamped into the cam and crank gears that need to line up with corresponding marks on the backing plate before you remove the cambelt.

If there are no markings, you need to make your own.

Rotate crank until at TDC (reinstall the crank drivebelt pulley loosely and front cover to do this, then take them off again)

Once at TDC, use correction fluid and mark the crank position twice - once on the crank gear itself and a corresponding mark on the backing plate.

Ditto for the cam gear.

Make sure these marks are aligned when cambelt is replaced, turn engine one full revolution when new cambelt is on to double check marks line up where they should and you're good to go.

Sometimes the cam isn't marked but the crank gear is. In that case line up the crank gear and use the above step to mark the cam gear.

Be precise as the cam gear will most likely move when you take the cambelt off due to tension from the cam on the rockers
