I checked the cmos battery voltage OK at 3.0 volts... time is lost when I log off windows. Stays OK while I'm using the computer.
Is this a softwae or a hardware problem?
By the way I recently RESTORED my operating system with the mfg's restore disk and that is when I noticed the time errorBy the way I recently RESTORED my operating system with the mfg's restore disk and that is when I noticed the time error

The CMOS (BIOS) battery keeps the computer'a comfiguration and the Date & Time settings in the CMOS (BIOS) chip in its memory. When the CMOS (BIOS) battery is flat these configuration information is lost. Replace the CMOS battery with a new one, in most cases this battery is a lithium 3 volt battery type CR2032 and it is coin size battery 18mm in dia.(check it to make sure the type of battery is installed on your motherboard). When you replace this battery then go into the BIOS and set the Date & Time etc.
hi charli, did you change new cmos batter , how you checked your bios cmos battery, if you not changed your cmos battery try to change and check it you may get proper time.
Disconnect the - lead from that battery, Repower the charger. The LED should be green. If it stays RED, charger defective.
Reconnect the - lead to the battery, measure voltage when charger is on. Should be between 11.5 and 13 volts. If OK, replace the battery. If lower than 11.5, check for charger cable connections OR for a connected load ( power drawing ) of more than 10 amps.
If this is an older PC (3-5 years or more) then most likely the backup battery on the motherboard has become weak. On many motherboards this is a coin cell, which can easily be replaced (on others it is soldered in, though), just have a look.
Hi, Error 192 means a fan error, to test this measure the voltage of the backup battery. If the
voltage is not correct, replace the backup battery. Check the fan and the system board.
Error 163 means the time and date is not set, to set the time and date hit F1 when you see the IBM logo and set the time and date.
Error 173 means the configuration data is lost, to sort that select OK in the error screen and set the time and date.
In most case its the CMOS battery that's run low and need to be changed for a new one, so for the time being you will have to keep setting the time and date and it will boot to windows.
It doesn't It is like a flash light battery. It is only on when the computer is turned off to keep the BIOS settings. Try replacing the battery,if date is not kept.
