Trying to find were the empeller is location on 1983 omc stern drive. Got a repair manual for 87 model same as boat. But found out after buying the manual the engine is 83 model 6 cyl. Which was no help to me on this engine and drive. Thanks Dean

The pump should be located on the shaft which requires you to take the drive off, be careful if you dont have a jack or hoist becasue it is heavy and hard to re-align

Bing search I came up with this but you may be able to find schematics or PDF manuals if you look for them or look for how to replace parts. Another useful idea is youtube video's on how to.
I just read up on the removal of your carb, It says to remove the flywheel to get more room, and then the carb, the left side bolt is harder to get to but it can be done. Only get 1/6 turn of the wrench, remove the fuel line, and be careful not to lose any throttle parts. Hope this helps.
Purple-white, AC on the alternator goes to the choke solenoid on carburettor
Orange ( thick cable ) is the charge cable, goes to the battery post on the startermotor
Purple is exc, positive from ignition key.
Red, sense, positive from the engine wire loom.
That's what I found
we had replaced the engine in our 87 4.3 star craft and when we put the omc cobra stern drive back in we now dont have foward gear, we have nuetral and reverse. could it be the linkage or could it be the shifter cable or any other idea's that could be the problem.
does the boat have a outdrive on the back of the boat? if so the impellar will be inthe bottom foot of the motor if not it will be in a housing toward the bottom of the motor belt driven with 2 two inch hoses to it but really need to know what kind of boat it is
