Why does screen indicate "searching"?

The handset cannot communicate with its base.

When the handset cannot establish its secure (encrypted) radio
link with the base it is 'paired with' or 'registered' to, it will first
say "Connecting....", then it will display "Out of Range or No
Power at Base", then it settles at the infamous "Searching..."
display.

Although rare, the registration between base and handset can
become corrupted and lost so that we must de-register and
then re-register the pair.

First, ensure that power is 'on' at the base (a more common cause)
and the cradle will charge the handset, etc.

Second, be sure the handset battery is well charged as a weak battery will interfere with the registration process.

Then try the following ( 'works for the D1680, D1481, and similar):

To deregister the handset:

1. Press and hold the [END] and [ # ] keys at the same time,
after a few seconds the display will say
"System Reset, Deregister Handset"
press [SELECT]
scroll to "Base Unavailable"
press [SELECT] (chirps) press [END]
display reads "Place in base..."

Next, to re-register the handset:

2. Set the handset into the base cradle and wait,
after ~30 seconds the handset should display
"Handset #" and be good to go...
or it will display "Registration Failed"

Good luck!

You need to reconnect this phone with the "base". If more than one charger came with this set, only one of them is the base. This would be the one connected to the phone line.

Please place it back in the charger that is the base or home unit.

DECT 6.0 cordless. Why won't it register the handset when placed on the base?

This could be several things.... the simplest is that a weak
handset battery can interfere with registration. Or,
does the handset display say "Connecting..." or
"Searching...." or "Out of Range / no power at base ..." ??

In these cases the handset is registered to another base and
must be de-registered before it can be registered again.

To deregister the handset:

Press and hold the [END] and [ # ] keys at the same time,
after a few seconds the display will say:

"System Reset, Deregister Handset"
press [SELECT]

scroll to "Base Unavailable"
press [SELECT] (chirps) press [END]

display reads "Place in base..." and it should be ready to
register.

Good luck!

When a handset is reading "Searching", it can't communicate with the base. First, check if the base station is plugged into a live outlet. (Try plugging the base into a different outlet or making sure that the circuit breaker hasn't popped. I had a cordless phone base plugged into a UPS. During an extended power outage, the UPS was turned off. The phone didn't work until someone noticed and turned the UPS back on.) Move closer to the base station.

If this was an extra handset purchased later, make sure it is compatible with the base station. The Uniden DWX207 works with the DECT1500, DECT2000 and DECT3000 series bases. Register the handset with the base. The registration procedure depends on the base station. If the base unit has an LCD screen, with the phone in standby, press Menu/Select and press the down arrow to reach "Register Handset". Then press Menu Select again. (If the base doesn't have an LCD screen, unplug the power cord. Then hold the Find HS or Find button as you reconnect the power cord until the Charge/In Use light starts to blink.) Then press the # key on the handset before the registration period ends.

Make sure that you haven't exceeded the number of handsets for your base. You may need to de-register all handsets and then re-register them.

If no handsets will pair with the base, replace the base unit. The transmitter or the receiver aren't communicating properly with the handsets.

I hope this helps.

Phone on base showing it is "searching" for base.

check to see if the power cord is properly plugged in. You may have the phones on the wrong cradles, this wil cause them to search.

PHONE READS SEARCHING EVEN WHEN IN THE BASE

Your phone has lost its ability to communicate with the base and the problem could be with the handset or base. You have probably already tried this, but power down and power back up with the handset in the cradle and full charged. If that does not do it, unfortunately repair is needed. Sorry. CG
