The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.

SOURCE: No power to my new Kodak - Series 3 EasyShare Dock for Select Kodak EasyShare Digital Cameras

Hey ditzydiana,
If you just purchased the camera and you are already having problems with it I would not try to troubleshoot the problem I would exchange it for a new one. If you purchased the camera from a Best Buy™ store the return/exchange period on the camera is 14 days. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

After taking one picture with my Kodak Easyshare

I've had a similar problem with my Z1285.

The problem is probably weak batteries. The Z1285 requires really good batteries. Standard alkaline batteries don't last very long, perhaps a few dozen shots, less if you are using flash.

I've had success using lithium batteries, not the rechargeable type, but the disposable lithium. Specifically, the AA4 Energizer Ultimate Lithium.

Hope this helps.

How to transfer pictures from camera to computer?

Your camera should either have a USB cord that will connect it to the computer or your computer may have a memory card reader. Plug either one into your computer and goto the My Computer Icon either located on your desktop or in your start button and your camera shoud be listed in there as a new drive. If you are using an operating system older than Windows XP then you may need to download the drivers from the manufaturers website.
