Tone arm cueing problem on Technics SL-BD27.

When we move the tone arm over to desired position on record and then use cueing to lower the arm to the record, it does not lower but comes back over to its resting position. It stays there and makes a clicking noise once or twice, and then it lowers and shuts off. It will not stay on the record and play.

This is a Technics SL-BD27 model. Is it similar to a SLBD22?

Thanks for any help we can get. We purchased it in Dec. 1988.

Thank you for your help. We were able to adjust it ourselves, and it is working well for the first time in years.

    Thanks for your help, Phillip473

The cueing lever on my Technics SL 1210MK5 does not work. I can manually lift the arm and lay it gently on the disc, but that lever is not engaged! Advice please, does it just need silicone oil?

The cueing mechanism should lift and lower the tone arm regardless of whether there is oil in the cylinder or not. The silicon oil is used to dampen the movement. If the lever does not operate the tonearm, then there is mechanical damage under the platter.

Tone arm keeps returning to rest on Crosley CR249

Hi, Try this. with it turned off. Lift tone arm across a record to the run out groove and set it down. Now power up and hopefully it will reset itself. In all honesty I would sell it and get a decent old school player. John. Styluscity.com

Hi. I'm have a problem with my Technics SL-BD20 turn table I've just purchased. When putting the arm onto the LP it just skips over the surface to the middle. Why does it do that? Cheers.

Try adjusting the tone arm weight so that the arm will be slightly heavier.

If this does not help, see if the tone arm manual lift handle is operational and fully released when the arm sits on the record.

Another possible cause are the tone arm position sensors inside the unit.

Hope you can fix it.

Tonearm lifter in UP position - how to fix

I have also had this problem with the same model turntable. I opened mine up and the problem seems to have been that the grease on the arm lift and cueing lever was gumming up the linkage between the two. (I suspect that my turntable hadn't been used in some time.) I managed to free up the parts by manually working the the arm lift (pressing it down) several times. I'm not sure that I needed to open up the chasis for this fix but it did help me to see what was going on. Good luck with yours.

The tone arm will not drop on our Technics sl-dd33 turntable.

Have you left the tone arm lift in the up position?
If not: At the end of a record the mechanism lifts the tone arm, returns it to the rest, lowers it and switches off the motor.
It the motor has stopped too early, the tone arm will remain raised.
You can try gently rotating the platter clockwise by hand. This may allow the return cycle to finish.

Cueing Problems on Technics SL-1300MK2

Usually the damping fluid is to let the tone arm lower slowly, lifting is usually a mechanical link. Read THIS.

Hope that helps...
