Thread in needle or bobbin keeps on breaking

One time the bobbin thread breaks, the next time after a few stiches the needle thread will snap. Looks like the needle thread is getting snagged on the bobbin holder. Have already tried rethreading both bobbin and needle, oiled the sewing machine, and changing needles. It usually sews just fine on the test fabric. Then when I start on the actual fabric it starts breaking the thread. Test fabric and actual fabric are the same type. Also have tried changing the upper tension, and that works for 10 stitches or so then it breaks. Can't find the bobbin tension to try to adjust that.

    Hello,
I'm trying to adjust my tension for a two way stretch fabric, and what ever I do the stiches keep breaking or skipping stitches. I have changed the needle, adjust top and bottom tensions and the bobbin tension. What else could be wrong?

I was working with my Singer 14u32 serger when I forgot to take the pin out of the fabric. the blade cut the pin in half, and ever since then the machine is making a clicking sound and doesn't sew the fabric when I try. The thread comes out of the holes of the needles. Can anyone help?

Nothing will catch. It looks like it's sewing but when I check what I've sewed there's just a line of little holes where the needle has stitched.

The upper thread keeps breaking whenever I sew even though it is always properly threaded and the needle is fine

check the age of the cotton
cotton is not a single thread but a series of fine threads bonded with a glue
old cotton glue breaks down and the thread separates easilty
next check that the needle is installed correctly with the grove ( thread groove away from the bobbin hook
check the needle and hook timing because if it is off a fraction , the hook will pierce the the thread causing it to break
next check that the eye is the correct size for the thread in use
a needle eye too small for the thread thickness will jam the thread ans not let slide through the eye properly

How do I stop my tread from popping on my Brother (17 stich) sewing machine?

Breaking thread? Presumably the top thread? AVOID old or bargain bin threads. The upper tension is too tight or the thread is not properly seated in the tension disk, the needle is defective or the needle, needle eye/scarf is not the best choice for the fabric/thread being used, there may be a snag in the bobbin area that is catching the thread. Make sure the thread is not catching on the spool's thread notch.

I have a Elna excellence 7600. Why does thread keep breaking while chain stitching fabric?

Thread breaks
first check to see if there is an actual thread break, then check the threading-both needle and thread
Sometimes the machine will signal a thread break when there really isn't one, at least not technically. For example, a mis-threading can cause the thread break sensor to think there is a problem because it is not sensing the proper thread tension. This can also happen if a loop of thread forms suddenly resulting in slack in the thread.
a thread break signal are really a "thread out" indication most often triggered by an empty or low bobbin or the needle becoming unthreaded.
rethread the machine and correct any low thread conditions.
Actual Thread Breaks
Examine the thread break. Is it a clean snap or is it shredded?
Next, examine the thread path. Did the thread get caught on something
A common problem with embroidery thread is that due to its slippery nature, it can slide down the spool and get hung up underneath causing a sudden jerk on the thread. Rayons will probably just snap at this point but some poly threads may be strong enough to resist breaking and instead flex the needle resulting in a broken needle.
Metallic threads often cause more breaks and shredding because they tend to form loops and kinks as they come off the spool. This is exacerbated by small spools with narrow diameters and short thread paths from the spool to the first thread guide. A simple solution for this is to extend the thread path.
Thread Factors
Lets look a little closer at thread. Embroidery threads are more fragile than those used for garment construction or quilting. Start with quality thread and know how to care for it.
Embroidery threads can dry out when exposed to light, heat, drafts, and air conditioning. They can become "bruised" if dropped or handled roughly. As they age, they become more fragile. Due to dying and other processes, certain colors break more easily than others. Check this for yourself. Try breaking a white thread and then a black. Also notice that the black is slightly thicker than the white.
Rayon tends to break easier than poly. Metallics are more temperamental and finicky
Needle-Related Possibilities
On a single needle machine, if you are getting continuous thread breaks with multiple colors and you are sure you can eliminate the thread, then look at the needle.
Is it the right size? For 40 wt rayon or polyester thread, a 70/10 or 75/11 works well on most fabrics.
Embroidery needles have a slightly larger eye to reduce friction on the thread. High quality needles have a well-polished eye that won't snag, abrade, or shred the thread. The thread can pass through the eye of the needle 50 to 60 times before it is laid down on the fabric. Any rough spot on the needle or thread path can literally saw the thread in half
The broken needle is the least of your problem! If your machine doesn't stop the instant the needle breaks, it may severely damage your fabric. Needle breaks can cause scratches and rough spots on the throat plate and in the hook area that can shred thread. Until these problems are smoothed out, thread breaks will be your reality.
It is possible for the fabric and/or stabilizer to the source of thread problems. For example, heavy, stiff fabrics can easily strip some metallic threads
If the lower thread keeps breaking, open out the bobbin hatch and check that there is no lint buildup that is hindering the smooth flow of the thread. If there is any lint, remove the bobbin and clean the area thoroughly with a brush. Also check that the bobbin is wound correctly and that the tension of bobbin thread is even. Poor maintenance and incorrectly wound bobbins are the culprit more often..

My bobbin and thread are constantly breaking. I have the correct thread to needle, but I don't even get one stitch before both break. Tension is on auto; should it be less or more?

is the needle in the holder the correct way ( groove in the needle facing the thread )
Is the needle eye the correct size for the thread in use

remove it from auto tension setting and adjust it your self
make sure that the top thread is between the tension plates and not around the thread behind the plates
the thread tension is close to correct when you need a bit of a pull to pull it along to the needle
is the method of threading to the needle correct as any areas where the thread reverses direction will cause it to break
what do mean that the bobbin is constantly breaking or is it the bobbin thread that is breaking
have you got the thread down the case slot and under the flat spring correctly
the bobbin has to be inserted into the case in such a manner that when the thread is pulled , it flows down the slot freely as the bobbin turns
if the direction is wrong , the thread has to move across the sharp edge of the slot and will cut easily

My top thread keeps snapping on my consew 118. There are loops on the underside when I stitch with it and the thread keeps snapping at the needle. It is threaded right but it keeps happening literally...

The top thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle
8. Try a different spool or cone of thread

Thread looping on the bottom of your fabric can be caused by little or no top tension or too much bobbin tension. Another cause is thread or lint caught in the top tension.
Make sure the thread is between the tension discs and that no thread or lint is caught

Thread keeps breaking, sounds like something keeps catching in the bobin area that causes the thread to break on top, skipping stiches also

You could possibly have some burs on the bobbin casing. This will cause threads to break. This is a repair that will have to be done by a professional. OR you could have place the bobbin in backwards. If the bobbin is not in correctly it will not have the right tension and the thread will break. And finally, make sure the upper threading is correct. The thread needs to go through all thread guides and the needle needs to be place in the machine with the grooved side facing you.
I hope this helps. If it does, please rate my suggestion!

The top needle unthreads after just a few stiches. I have a Singer 2950 and am new to sewing.

Are you saying that the thread is breaking?

CAUSES of upper thread breaking

needle is in backwards
improperly threaded
tension to tight
needle bent or blunt
thread to coarse for size of needle
needle too long for machine
burr on needle
tension discs worn so that thread works in grove
neele too fine for size of thread and fabric
lint or dirt around bobbin case holder
irregular sewing speed
AND THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS:
threads not properly pulled back under pressure foot when starting to sew
This means, Have enough of the upper and lower thread pulled to the back and hold for the first 2-3 stiches,

Do this every time and it will become second nature and you will do it automatically
