I was working on an assignment lastnight and out of nowhere, a message popped up saying that my flash drive had been improperly moved and data could have been lost (the zip was still in). I didn't think much of it as I figured I could just remove the flash drive and it would pop up again next time. Later when I tried this, the zip would not read and I have been unable to access any of my data ever since. The flash drive appears to be fine (externally), is there any way to salvage my work??
If your drive does dhow up, but the data is not there there was somehow a short in the drive, like ultimitloozer said if you don't safely remove hardware that short can corrupt data, or delete it. You will need to get a software that searches your drive for corrupt data and see if you can restore it, but that is unlikely. Sorry. However you drive will still work, but you will just need to be careful

When removing the drive from a machine, have you been using the Safely Remove Hardware applet to stop the drivers for it first or have you just been unplugging it when you are done? By not stopping the drivers, data may not be completely written to the device thereby corrupting the data stored on it. Sometimes it can be automatically recovered by the system, but most times it cannot.
