Are there several red horizontal lines? Are they more pronounced when changing channels or on a black background?

These are retrace lines. The screen on the red tube is turned up too high. Inside the set there are 6 knobs. 3 for focus & 3 for screen. Turn down the red screen until lines are gone. These knobs are usually found by pulling of the front panel.

Turned on tv and it looked like 3d. Found red horizontal convergence lines extremely bowed. Cannot correct with magic focus either in auto or manual. What is the fix and what is more cost effective ......

TAKE OFF THE FRONT PANEL AND FIND THE FOCAS ELECTRONIC FOCAS CONTROLS. USUALY BETWEEN THE LEFT SPEAKER AND THE FIRST CRT GUN. PAUSE A DVD WHEN THE CREDITS GOING. OR USE A MENU IN YOUR SAT RECEIVER TO LOOK AT. USEING THE GRID IN THE TV SOMTIMES IS NOT ACCURATE. YOU WILL SEE 6 SMALL KNOBS (RED,GREEN,BLUE)FOCUS AND(RED,GREEN,BLUE)SCREEN DRIVE .FOLLOW THESE STEPS 1 TURNDOWN RED AND BLUE SCREENDRIVE 2 FOCUS THE GREEN (YOU SHOULD SEE SCANLINES) 3 TURN DOWN THE GREEN SCREENDRIVE 4 TURN UP THE RED SD UNTILL YOU SEE RETRACE LINES THEN BACK IT OFF TILL THEY ARE GONE. 5 FOCUS RED (UNTILL YOU SEE SCANLINES) 6 TURN RED DOWN AND TURN UP BLUE 7 FOCUS BLUE (BLUE WILL NOT BE AS GOOD AS RED+GREEN NOW YOU ARE IN FOCUS, NOW YOU NEED TO GET SCREENDRIVE BACK THE BEST WAY IS TO, PAUSE A DVD ON A BLACK SCREEN SELECT PLAY MOVIE AND HIT PAUSE RIGHT AFTER . TURN ALL THE LIGHTS OFF IN THE ROOM AND USE A SMALL FLASHLIGHT TO ADJUST SCREENDRIVE SO YOU DONT MOVE FOCAS BY MISTAKE. THE TRICK IS TO END UP WITH A VERY FAINT GRAY SCREEN WITH EACH COLOR UP AS FAR AS YOU CAN WITHOUT SEEING ANY COLOR ON THE TV. WHEN YOU GET THIS TRY PLAYING THE MOVIE. MAKE SURE THE BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST IN THE TV ARE AT A NORMAL LEVEL BEFORE YOU START . COLOR,BRIGHTNESS,AND FOCUS IS NOW SET TO YOUR DVD PLAYER.DO A FINAL CONVERGANCE AND YOU ARE DONE!
IF YOU CAN'T GET A COLOR TO FOCUS YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS MANUALY. SOME TV'S YOU CAN LOOSEN THE NUT ON THE CRT LENS AND MANUALY FOCUS IT. (LIKE AN OLD CAMERA). IF YOU GET THIS FAR YOU MIGHT AS WELL CLEAN THE LENS WITH A VINEGER BASED GLASS CLEANER (SPRAY THE RAG NOT THE TV) TAKE A LOOK AT THE MIROR, CLEAN IF NEEDED. IF THE MIRROR IS REAL DIRTY THEN THE SCREEN MUST BE BAD TOO.TAKE THE SCREEN OFF AND CLEAN THE BACK SIDE IF NEEDED. LOOK INTO THE LENS AT THE PICTURE TUBE YOU SHOULD SEE A NICE BRIGHT CLEAN PICTURE IF IT LOOKS CLOUDY YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE LIQUID IN THE CRT GUNS.I DON,T THINK YOU WAN'T TO TRY THIS YOURSELF. TIP(I USE A LITTLE ARMOR ALL WHEN I CLEAN LENES, THIS REPELS DUST LIKE IN YOUR CAR) IF YOU CHANGE YOUR FLUID AND WANT TO KNOW WHERE TO GET NEW FLUID I PUT CLEAR ANTIFREEZE IN MY PIONEER TV 3YEARS AGO AND STILL LOOKS GREAT "NOT KIDING" HOPE ALL THIS YOU. IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE TO DO IT. HAVE IR SERVICE. REPAIRING THIS WILL BE YOUR BEST OPTION>THANKS

Blue red green lines around people images

this is caused by some kind of electrical interference. this can be caused by cd players, speakers, etc being too close to the tube. after you find the culprit and remove or move, unplug tv for about 10 mins, then plug back in

Faint lines show up when i get dark screens in movies

First check what color of faint lines comes then reduce Screen Volts in TV of that CRT (tube)
Take off lower front cover, speaker grille of TV, there you will see focus control block that has 6 control knobs, upper 3 knobs are focus adjustment of red-green-blue CRTs and lower 3 knobs are screen volt controls for red-green-blue CRTs. Turn screen volt control knob CCW to reduce screen volts of desired CRT.
Put TV on any free AV input so screen will be dark enough to adjust screen volts.
Thanks.

I was just given this t.v because friends couldn't figure out what is wrong with itl. The colors don't line up right, looks kinda blurry depending on the lighting of the program being watched. How do i fix...

According to the manual:
1) go to the "TV Main Menu"
2) Select "Screen"
3) Select Adjust Projection TV (obviously only if a projection TV).
This then allows you to adjust the TV's 3-colors. Selecting GREEN CENTERING brings up a control panel that lets you center the green projection tube on the screen. Selecting RED CONVERGENCE or BLUE CONVERGENCE lets you align the Red & Blue projector tubes. Centre the green projector tube 1st. Then adjust the red & blue until the test pattern on the TV screen appers white.
Good Luck!

You have a completely different problem. The screen voltage for the blue picture tube is slightly too high on your set. This will put fine lines in the background of the picture, called retrace lines. This is very common and easy to correct. Remove the front speaker cover and the access panel behind it. Look inside and you will see a black box with six controls, each control having a little white glue on it. This is the Focus/Screen block. Three controls are labeled Focus and three are labeled Screen. The screen control in the center is for green but I am not sure if the screen control on the left or right is for blue for your model. With the TV on, set it to VIDEO 1 but do not connect anything to the VIDEO 1 jacks. This will produce a pure dark picture, showing any faint lines in the background. Choose one of the screen controls and increase (turn clockwise) it slightly. If the blue lines do not get brighter it means you are turning the red screen control, so put it back where it was and choose the other screen control. When you find the blue screen control, decrease (turn counter-clockwise) it until just when the blue lines are gone. If you want you can check that the red and green screen controls are set to just below the point where their faint lines are visible. When done, replace the panels and your picture will be back to perfect.

MikeNJ1964 was exactly right! I have a Sony KP-65WV600 that had horizontal green lines that showed when the picture was darker. I had to remove 3 screws on the right and left side of the tv holding in the speakers...carefully pop out the middle panel from the clips holding it in....remove 4 screws from the cardboard in the middle and remove the cardboard. I then saw the six screws. The adjustment screws were the three below. I turned the middle screw until the lines dissapeared. I tried the left screw and blue lines appeared which I then adjusted away.
THANKS a bunch. SAVED me money!!!

Projection tv is Blurry and offset

You have a focus and screen control box it has 3 controls on top 3on bottom these are the controls for Red-Green-Blue screen drives and for focus to each tube. IT should have Focus /Screen on it.

Sony 65 inch screen tv

The lines you saw, i;m sure they are the ones called retrace lines but know the failure could be located on the red CRT board. Most likely the video amplifier is defective and not necessarily the CRT.
What is the model number of your TV?

Picture is yellow and green

Your missing the red drive on the set. Its most likly the picture tube. Its a possibility that the red drive circuit could be not working so the best thing to do is take off the gree picture tube socket and put the green board on the red tube. Of course do all this when the set is unplugged. if you have no tv experience. its not a good idea to be messing around inside of these sets.
