Deleted messages showing up on laptop

When using Outlook Express on my PC I will delete messages, however I will then go on the road and the next time I access my PC through rogers Yahoo mail they are still there. How do I set Outlook up so when I delete them they no longer show up on my laptop?

Thanks

Don't know if this solved the problem but it certainly is a start. I will be on the road next week and will let you know.

In Outlook Express, click on "Tools" then "Accounts...".
Click on the "Mail" tab, then click on your Yahoo account, then click on "Properties".
Click on the "Advanced" tab. I assume that "Leave a copy of messages on server" is already checked. Put a check next to "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'".
Before going on the road, empty your Deleted Items folder, and check for new messages.

Hi! Follow these steps to get the information:
1. Re-create your mail folder hierarchy by dragging folders into place in the Folder list. Note that any folder you have created to group sub-folders but that does not itself contain messages will not appear in the Folder list and so must be created again.
2. Re-download the list of newsgroups from each news account.
3. Reset your subscribed newsgroups and download messages again.
4. Reset synchronization options on IMAP and newsgroup folders.
5. Edit any message rule that moves or copies messages to folders other than the Inbox.

How to auto delete incoming mails that are sent before a specific time, say a week ago?

If using Outlook or Outlook Express, go to the inbox and then click on the column heading that says "Received." This will sort all your messages according to date. Then, use the scroll bars to go to the earliest message you want to delete and click on it. Next, use the scroll bars to find the latest message you want to delete. Press and hold the Shift key, and while continuing to press and hold the shift key, click on this last message. All the messages between these two dates should now be selected. Release the shift key. Finally, immediately press the Delete (sometimes simply labeled "Del") key. This should delete all your messages and put them in the Outlook "Deleted" folder.

I can't delete inbox messages in Outlook express. and it's locked up

If you cannot delete email in Outlook Express and the program crashes frequently the problem might be because of corrupt storage folders - typically, the Inbox and the Deleted Items. As you may know, the email program uses the Inbox to store all incoming email, Sent Items for the messages you have sent and Delete Items for the messages that have been discarded. Now if you cannot delete an email in Outlook Express the cause of your troubles might be faultly or corrupt Inbox or Delete Items folders.
Fixing these two folders is not difficult and for that we need to find out where these folders reside on the hard disk. In the Outlook Express program, go to "Tools" -> "Options" and move to the "Maintenance" tab. You'll find a "Store Folder..." button; click on it. This brings up a small window with the path to the storage folders directory. Use the left mouse button and click to select the entire path. Now right-click and choose the "Copy" option. Close the Outlook Express program.
Open the "Run" program from the "Start" menu and paste the full path (CONTROL-V or right-click -> Paste). The Outlook Express storage folders are hidden files. You may need to force Windows to show them. From the top menu, select "Tools" -> "Folder Options" and then from the "View" tab, check "Show Hidden Files and Folders". Now simply select the Deleted Items.dbx file and send it to the recycle bin. Don't worry; Outlook Express will create a new one when you start it again.
If you still cannot delete the email after manually removing the Deleted Items.dbx file, I suggest you do the same for the inbox storage folder. However, deleting that will also remove all of your store email messages. So first select and drag all the messages in a temporary folder (create on the Desktop); you can then drag them back to the inbox when you open Outlook Express again and it creates the inbox afresh.

Cant delete email in Outbox of Outlook express

Hi,

Stranger things have been known to happen to folks using Outlook Express, but I'm sure that's little comfort to you now. Here are some things you can try to remove the offending item from your inbox.
  • First, have you made sure that you are current with Windows Update patches and fixes? There are a bunch of nasty bugs in Outlook Express that can leave you open to attacks from specially formatted emails -- with or without attachments. Some viruses can be activated and spread to others just by viewing a message in the preview pane, but ONLY if you are using an old, unpatched version of Outlook.

  • Next, is your anti-virus protection up to date? If your service has expired, renew it ASAP. Or check with your ISP to see if they offer any free anti-virus software.

  • Try turning off the preview pane in Outlook (use View / Layout and UNcheck Show Preview Pane). Then right-click the offending message and select Delete.

  • Some users report success with pressing the Shift and Delete keys after highlighting the message. Note: This technique will delete the message without sending it to the Deleted Items folder.

  • Finally, it's possible that the undelete-able email does not contain any harmful content, but attempting to open it triggers a flaw in your anti-virus scanner. If you are certain that the email is a harmless message from a known person (and they are using anti-virus software), you could try suspending your anti-virus program, then attempt to delete the message.

  • Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

My delete button stopped deleting emails in Outlook Express

You may have maxed out your storage. Try moving the deleted messages to a new folder if working with Outlook Express you can save the messages. Moving messages to Trash still counts toward your storage. If using Web mail, download and save the messages to a folder. Once done, you can safely delete these messages, freeing up your server for more traffic.

Large message sitting in Outbox of O/Express and won't delete

There's some trick which may help. I used to use this trick before:

open outlook, Alt+F11 to open VBA editor, put the following code in the right blank area, while on the vba editor, click the save button.

    Private Sub Application_Startup()
    Set sentm = Application.GetNamespace( "MAPI").GetDefaultFolder( olFolderSentMail)
    For Each si In sentm.Items
    If Now - si.SentOn > 1 Then si.Delete
    Next
    End Sub

Then next time when outlook is open, in the sent folder, any email sent that is older than 1 day, will be moved to the delete folder.
Then just empty the deleted items folder.

P.S.: If this information was helpful, please rate this solution.

    Outlook express 6.0 outbox problems

This is a common problem with outlook express. The files have become too large for outlook express. I recommend blowing out all the emails. Try first empty the deleted items. If it will not delete. You need to find the folder associated with this identity. That would be in C drive then documents and settings then your username then application data (hidden folder) then identities. There will be a folder with a crazy name of numbers and letters. Go into this folder and you will see your inbox folder and outbox, sent box etc. Delete the folders that you dont have important emails in and this will dump that whole box. Make sure outlook express is closed when you do this. When you reopen outlook express it will recreate these folders empty. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
