NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Router Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 11, 2013

I have 2 netgear routers, both wnr1000v2 - couldn't get connected and when I went into the router set up the region was greyed out saying africa and when I hit the wireless security type no information populated under it for example when you choose WEP you get the encryption generator this section remained blank. I did the factory reset not luck. I then connected the second wnr1000v2, also resetting to factory default and I was getting the same thing on this router too. It is letting me believe its not the router, but where could this issue be coming from. Newer firmware would not update when I downloaded it from the netgear site. If anyone knows this issue please I appreciate any help cause I know I'm missing something. The only thing I added to the network recently was a new wireless printer last week.

If your routers are more than three years old, it's time to replace them. I had one 4 years ago, and it was on all the time. It finally died after 2 years. It acted pretty much the same as yours do now. Time to upgrade!

SOURCE: NETGEAR WGR614v7 Network Security key

Hi, you need to connect to the routers admin pages to configure the wireless settings and security. Check out this page:-
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101676.asp

When you get to step 6, click the WPA-PSK security setting and it will give you a box to type in a password of your choice, make it memorable but difficult to guess, so a mixture of numbers and letters. I think its a min of 8 characters.
Hope this helps..

If you hook your PC directly to the router using an Ethernet cable you don't need the key. You can log into the router and change the WEP Key to anything you want, but u have to be directly connected to the router not going through the wireless.

Change region

There is a factory reset button on the side or base of the router that you need to press to try and unlock. It would have helped if you had provided the full model number of the netgear router.

Can't switch region back to us on netgear router

Try factory resetting your router. HERE are the instructions directly from Netgear. You may have to search around the site a bit to find your exact model since you did not provide us with a model number but this should get you close.

My cable ISP provided me with a wireless router (NetGear WNR1000v2) that will not connect with my Toshiba Tecra S! laptop. Are these incompatible? Maybe the laptop lacks necessary encryption capabilities?...

Hi,

It is compatible however you need to keep in mind that the settings on the router and on the laptop should be the same. You can see the netwrok but you need to enter the right network key. You can access the netwrok key on the wireless settings page of the router.

Thanks for using Fixya.

My netgear wnr1000v2 router will intermittently not send a signal that can be detacted by my laptop

This usually happens because of interference. I've found the best way to deal with it is to change the channel on the router. Stick with channel 1, 6 or 11. It always works for me. Some months I change the channel once or twice.

Netgear WPN824 router

You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.
