Quantaray 28-90 for Nikon N65 zoom ring locked up

All of the sudden the zoom ring on my AF Quantaray 28-90 won't turn. The AF feature seems to be working just fine and I can manual focus too, but the zoom ring is stuck at about 48mm and I can't adjust the zoom feature either out or in. Any one know of a secret locking switch or fix for this? Thanks.

There is no secret locking switch. If a little gentle jiggling doesn't free the zoom ring, then I can only suggest you take it in to a reputable camera shop for a Clean-Lubricate-Adjust (CLA).

I have a Quantaray 28-200mm AF zoom lens Nikon, I use Nikon D80, are they compatible?

Turn the aperture ring on the lens to its smallest setting (largest f/number). You can control the aperture from the camera body, the same was as with a lens without an aperture ring.

Can the quantaray for Nikon AF 70-300mm zoom lens be used with a digital nikon camera?

Yes, assuming we're discussing SLR cameras. It can also be used with most Nikon film SLRs.

SLR to DSLR

You can use it, but it will not autofocus on your D60. It will set exposure properly, but you will have to turn the focus ring.

My question is about a Quantaray 75mm-300mm

Slide a piece of paper partway under the ring (make sure you leave enough hanging out so you can remove it later) and see if that tightens the action some.

Another low-tech approach is to push the ring to expose the inner barrel, then attack one or more pieces of Scotch tape or masking tape.

Auto Focus Nikon N65

amyfesh,
I have been finding a lot of these concerns while looking back at unsolved SLR issues, it shoots at the ceiling or the sky because there is just enough light the camera detects. Check the lens ring for a white dot and the ring for the aperture rotate the ring so the red f-stop (usually in red and f-22 or somewhere near that number) align, now the lens will open enough to allow the light that the camera has determined that it needs, now it will allow the shutter to open. I just joined the fixya in December, so I hope to hear from you if this helped and if you have any other questions about the N65.

Flashing letters in lens

Turn the aperture ring on the lens to its smallest aperture (largest f/number) and lock it there if it has a lock. You control the aperture through the command dial on the camera body, not the aperture ring on the lens.
