On repairing the "loose spring" or malfunction shock absorber, can all of these be reached from from the service panel or will the "drum" be required to be removed and then remounted?

Open the service panel and look for a loose spring or a malfunction shock absorber.Replace the deffective one or return it to place. Regarding the heating element- check with a multi-meter for 115/220V on its tags. In case you can read 115/220V you should replce it. If you can't read it,your problem is not the heating element. Let me know if you need for further assistance. Good luck!

My whirlpool duet washer hammers very loud when it spins. The outside of the machine doesn't seem to vibrate much but it is very loud.

That is a common occurrence with dryers such as this one. Even though it sounds bad, it is harmless. If it really bothers, you can re-balance the load and it should reduce the vibration.

My washing machine is ALWAYS off balance. I have tried adjusting the nobs on the bottom several times...a level always reads the machine is level.

Hello, the possible cause is if there is a thumping noise during spin cycle, the loads of clothes has probably gotten unbalanced, and what you will need do is to open the lid, redistribute the clothes in the washer, then restart it, repeat these steps if necessary.
Thanks

Very noisy when on spin. The machine seem to be balanced however the noise on spn is like a jet taking off. it gets louder as the spinning speed increases.

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Constantly off balance

I have a kenmore elite oasis top loading washer about 3 years old. I took it apart and checked the springs and the rods and the plastic ends that hold the rods in place and all of them look fine. I run an empty load in the washer and it still goes unbalanced on the spin cycle. My water bill has tripled due to the fact that every load takes 3 to 4 washings. I need help please!

Machine makes a thumping noise when spinning

If its thumping you have the maching overloaded and the clothes (very easy to do with heavy jeans or sweaters) are all on one side causing an out of balance situation. Try relocating some of the clothes to the other side of the unit and if that doesn't seem to help remove some of the clothes to eas the load on the machine otherwise it will never reach maximum spin speeds needed to rinse your clothes.

Need to balance washing machine drum

The drum should not need balancing, but the washer should be level in all directions. If the washer is level, but vibrates excessively during spin cycle, you may need to replace the springs. There is a set of suspension springs which act as shock absorbers. When these wear out the washer will bounce across the floor unless the clothes are 100% balanced in the washer.

GE WSM2780W Stacked Washer spin cycle

With no clothing in the wash tub take the following steps:
1. remove the front cover from the wash tub
2. run a full cycle of laundry and observe the tub's behavior

Potential Solutions:
A. If the tub begins to shake wildly during a full wash cycle with no clothing in it then you will need to adjust the 3 large springs on each side of the tub until the unit is working in a more-balanced position. This is simple to do by hand. If the tub appears to be shaking too far forward, then unhook the 2 large springs in back so they are tighter. Then run a full wash cycle again with no clothing.
* note: there are smaller springs too - you don't have to adjust these to fix your issue

B. If the tub works fine with no clothing during a full wash cycle, then try to load your clothing in a more balanced fashion. For example: if your wash load is only a small kitchen or bath rug then when the unit spins it will spin off balance with a wet & heavy item on only one side of the tub.

C. If you'd like to replace the 3 large springs, I can get you the part numbers. There are specific springs for both sides of the wash tub and they are different part numbers. The full replacement of the 3 large springs can be done by hand.

thanks,
Chris I.

Washer thumper

The thumping could also be a belt issue if it has a flat spot in it, especially if its a Frigidare Hybrid GE. To get to the element, sorry to say it, but will have to remove the drum and front of machine to get to it. Ohm out all the thermostats and thermofuses first. If it has the round element behind the drum (which it should) check the heater wire for breaks. If its a true GE it will have two wires, Frigidare Hybrid will only have one. Good Luck!!! Jim
