Reason number 1 (not sure why Kirby Co. still has not fixed it) -improperly installed outer bag. You have to push the bag all the way tothe unit so it presses the safety switch that is between exhaust andthe vacuum shell

Reason 2 - defective cord - try wiggling it. Ifyou know how to do it - try removing cord and supplying power directlyto the unit using another cord or wire (ONLY if you know how to workwith electricity. If you get zapped - do not blame me)

Reason 3 - bad power switch (instructions on how to replace it HERE)

Reason 4 (very unlikely) - motor KAPUT

Good Luck

Actually it can. If the machine has a defect but the good news is that is has a 3 year warranty. Take it to a Kirby authorized repair shop not a vac and sew and they will fix it right up....I am a factory authorized service tech for the Kirby co.

Replace coupling to Kirby G4

Hi There,
I think what you are asking is how to fit a new hose machine end, (hard plastic bit that connects the hose to the kirby body) to the rest of the corrugated hose?.
If this is right it does vary with the really old models but for the G3 and newer which is everything up to about 20 years old it is the same and quite easy.
All you have to do is heat the end of the hose up with hot water - not boiling or you will shrink the hose and kind of twist the new end on. You will need to have removed the old one first which is the same just heat up and twist off.

Our Kirby G5D won't start.

Make sure that both safety switches( in front and the bag are) are engaged. To see the video how to correctly attach the nozzle and bag go to:
http://www.goodvac.com

If it doesn't help, then most likely it is a switch. You can buy one on the same website.

Good Luck,

I might buy a used Kirby Heritage II , my question is does it have drive tech

Kirby Heritage is not a self propelled vac...but the newer
G series 3-4-5 etc are. This is a rugged fan first vac, expensive to maintain if you are rough on it and bulky to use but it grooms the carpet nicely.
It is also a fan first vac, meaning everything hits the fan before being blown into the bag. Nothing larger than your fingernail should be picked up EVER or you will blow the fan. Maintain it and it should run a long time in wide open areas...

No power from Kirby!!

Determine if the headlight works before anything else. If the light works but the motor won't you have power thru the vac and the problem is internal possibly motor brushes... or a loose wire on the inside connecting to the switch.
If the light goes out is likely a switch or cord problem. Switches on these vacs break more often than cords. What you see on top is the switch button, not the actually internal switch, however a switch does not normally fail while the vac is running, that sounds more like a loose connection or a bad cord.
So isolate the cord. Unplug it at both ends and plug lamp ( or test meter) into the cord into the cord and gently wiggle where the plug end meets the cord. If the lamp goes on and off the issue is the cord. You can buy a replacement specific to the Kirby series and plug it in yourself. If this s does not isolate the problem, take it to a service center. Kirby is very intricate inside.

The suction on the Kirby Ultimate g is very weak

you probably have a small leak somewhere. it doesn't take much to lose suction. make sure everything is sealed between the vac and bag and make sure there's not a small hole in the bag. the impeller should be alright unless, you've vacuumed up something very hard like a small
coin or something.if the impeller becomes cracked , it will have to be replaced.

Kirby Ultimate Diamond Edition G Series, upright.
Problem: I lost my manual. How do I use my vacuum on hard wood floors? How do I use attachments, where do they attach?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Kirby Ultimate Diamond Edition
You can cal the Kirby factory to request a new owner’s manual and they will describe how to use the vacuum on hardwood floors. There is a felt piece as wide as the brushroll area that will clip on to the bottom of the revolving brush area so that you hard wood floors don’t get scratched. The Kirby head will dial off and the Kirby head will come off and the attachment hose will connect to the front of the Kirby and that is how you use the attachments. Also contact your local Kirby vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Kirby Sentra vacuum burning belts

Have had Kirby vacuum for a couple of years since I've had it I burn at least two belts in two months. I keep roller clean, what is the problem?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Some of the problems that people have is that they feel they have to have the vacuum head all the way to the floor and that makes the belt work that much harder. The key to the best cleaning is to raise the height adjustment all the way to the top and once it’s there then drop it down one notch or setting @ a time until you here the tone change. Then try it to see if the vacuum if picking up well if not drop it down one more notch and that should be the setting it is supposed to be for your type of carpet. And remember to use the genuine Kirby belts instead of the Kirby replacements, they will work better. And your suggestion that to keep the brushroll clean and free spinning on each end and also keep the bottom plate clean of dirt and grease because if there is a build up it will move slower and leave black marks on the carpet. I hope this will help and if not contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
