Sony STR-D565 fuse continues to blow

I have a Sony STR-D565 receiver. It recently stopped working. It powered on but would not display the CD, TV, TAPE, ect wording when powered on in the digitial letter. Anyway, I pulled the cover off and saw the fuse was blown. I went to RadioShack and bought four new 5amp 125 volt fuses. I replaced the fuse and as soon as I powered up the receiver the fuse immediately blew. I tried to replace the fuse a second time and the exact same thing happened as soon as I powered up the receiver. What could be the problem and what is it going to take to fix it. Thanks for all of your replies in advance.

You have shorted output transistors in the amp that need to be replaced.

You could have a shorted winding in the power transformer. The diodes in the power supply can be shorted. Filter capacitors can short and send power to ground which will blow the fuse.

I have rewired my receiver and the SOny str-d565 keeps shutting off. Is this fixable or should I just get a new receiver?

This unit most likely has shorted output transistors. The unit is entering protect mode which will prevent further damage to the unit. Expect a parts cost in the $40 range for this repair.

I still have a Sony STR-D565 Receiver - but there's one major problem. After a variabel time in use it stop working. If I push the ON / OFF button , It gives the receiver new life, but just for a while....

If the word "Protection" is not flash in the display when this happens, then the receiver is in a tight area where it can't get enough air and is over heating. There are temp senosors on the heat sinks where the output transistors are mounted, and they will shut down the power supply in an overheat situartion, but the protecting indicator shold flash. Blow some air over the receiver and see if that stops the problem.

Sony str-de845 Powers up, relay clicks, fuses BLOW!

This condition, may be produced by defective components (Q506, Q507). you can remove those transistor, replace the fuses, power-on and wait for relays click. if the fuses not blown again, them replace both transistor.

Sony STR - D665

Hi Spike, The first thing I would try is to reset the system. Turn off the receiver and then hold down the power button for 5 seconds. "Enter to clear all" will appear in the display. Press enter and "Memory Cleared" should appear in the display. You are now back to factory settings. If this does not work, try checking the fuse. Take the two screws off from the back top of the unit, and the two screws on each side of the unit, and pull the cover off from the back. You will see the fuse in the back right side (if you are looking at it from the rear) Pull the fuse out and see if the wire is broken. HOPEFULLY one of these solutions will fix the problem. Please let me know how it works. Best regards, nightdiver
