Seems to me that it won't print without black ink. I'm not sure if this is true, but it continues saying there's an error on the printer. Nothing comes up on my PC monitor saying anything is wrong.
A yes, or no would be great on this question, but details work as well.
Hello!
I had the same problem, and I solved it.
You have to disable ink status wiever, you do that by holding start/stop button for at least 5 sec.

Thanks for the tip! Very useful!
On the MP970, it's the red button top right.
Ah Thankyou so much!

thanks this did the trick. **** Canon!
Healeyman (Solution #3): I have a MP240. I bought a generic ink refill kit and it works great and is vastly more affordable. the ink indicator does need to be disabled by pushing the start and stop/reset buttons simultaneously
Definately put ink in any holders the printer has. These machines are very picky about everything being just right for them to work. Always use new ink, Canon brand, no refills.

I have the exact same problem!
me too
Ok, I figured it out. The problem is the ink. If you're using a MP240 Canon all-in go get some black ink. Some printers out there have this ridiculous connection between ink and scanning. The printer needs to have ink to scan, they figure if you're scanning you probably want to print as well, not true, but never the less get more ink and it will work.
same here error 16
