Canon MP240 all-in-one, doesn't scan without ink???

Seems to me that it won't print without black ink. I'm not sure if this is true, but it continues saying there's an error on the printer. Nothing comes up on my PC monitor saying anything is wrong.

A yes, or no would be great on this question, but details work as well.

Ok, I figured it out. The problem is the ink. If you're using a MP240 Canon all-in go get some black ink. Some printers out there have this ridiculous connection between ink and scanning. The printer needs to have ink to scan, they figure if you're scanning you probably want to print as well, not true, but never the less get more ink and it will work.

Hello!
I had the same problem, and I solved it.

You have to disable ink status wiever, you do that by holding start/stop button for at least 5 sec.

Thanks for the tip! Very useful!

On the MP970, it's the red button top right.

Healeyman (Solution #3): I have a MP240. I bought a generic ink refill kit and it works great and is vastly more affordable. the ink indicator does need to be disabled by pushing the start and stop/reset buttons simultaneously

Definately put ink in any holders the printer has. These machines are very picky about everything being just right for them to work. Always use new ink, Canon brand, no refills.

I refilled my ink cartridge for canon mp240 but the black ink light is still flashing and I can't print. Ijust put ink in so i know it is full. How do i fix this problem

Did you use proper ink?
Try to disable "check for ink level" in printer driver.
Then try to clean connector plate of cartridge and printer with alcohol.

Need to know how to change printer ink

Do not touch the electrical contacts or print head nozzles on the Cartridge. The machine may not print properly if you touch it.

1. Make sure that the power is turned on, and open the Paper Output Tray.
2. Lift the Scanning Unit (Cover), then hold it open with the Scanning Unit Support (C).
genebur2_1.jpg 3. Pinch the tabs and open the Ink Cartridge Locking Cover.
4. Remove the Cartridge.
genebur2_2.jpg 5. Take a new Cartridge out of its package and remove the orange protective tape gently
6. Put a new Cartridge in the Cartridge Holder.(The Color Cartridge should be installed into the left slot and the Black Cartridge should be into the right slot.)
7. Close the Ink Cartridge Locking Cover to lock the Cartridge into place.
8. Push down the Ink Cartridge Locking Cover until it clicks.

My problem begins when I start to scan with my Cannon MP240 printer , the error messages apppear..'Printer is in use or an error has occured. Check Status. Scanner Driver will be closed.' My question is...

scanning has nothing to do with the printing ...so ...in theory it has to scan just fine without ink at all in the printer ...so ..if you have unexpected errors...probably it has something to do with the operating system and the driver ...so ...first remove with the add /remove software ( control panel ) the driver ...and reinstall it clean ..if this would not fix the problem ....you probably have to reinstall the operating system as well cause it has issues that interfere with the accurate function of the scanner /printer

Will the canon pixma mp240 continue to print

you need to have both cartridges somewhat full to run, there is a initialization routine that the printer goes thru and if you don't have good cartridges with ink it won't let you print.

Canon MP240 printer LCD alternates between P and 2.

Not sure about your machine but my Cannon would not work when my colour ink was low. The store I bought it says the manufacturer does this to sell coloured ink as well as black. The setting might say for black ink but there is a certain amount of colour goes in as well. I hardly ever used colour as I do business letters so I purchased a black ink jet which uses a black powder and I get 3000 pages for about 75 dollars worth of black jet powder.
