Dell XPS 200 PC Desktop Logo

Have an xps 200, monitor suddenly went black the other day in the middle of use. Noticed the power light had gone from green to amber. When I push button on monitor says it is in power save mode, to move mouse or press button on keyboard. Computer tower light is still green, but did notice that when turning the computer on it seems to make a new noise. Tried changing the white video cord and using the vga port instead, no luck. Wondering if could be video card. If not what else I can check.

Try connecting the monitor to a friend's computer. If you get some sort of a display it's not the problem. When you say that the computer makes a new noise like the fans are spinning fast, you might have an issue with the video card , motherboard, or power supply.

SOURCE: Computer Does Not turn On

Three things to look at. . .
1) CPU Heat Sink is full of 'House hold Dust - Clean it off !
2) If youre one to leave ur PC running 24/7 - 365 days a year -
The slightest bang, drop, jolt (See in you Theasaurus Bud) will shear the contact between the Proccessoe surface and the Heat Sink - Giving you zero Heat transfer - New Heat sink Grease !
3) Bung your Ram Module into the trash or the nieghbours roof, replace it ( it's the cost of a tube of toothpaste nowdays ) and if it still does work after allll that - Get your .357 Mag. out - Great target - seriously !!

SOURCE: my computer(a dell) is stuck on save power mode

The reason your computer is in power save mode is because the little battery inside your tower is going dead. It needs to be replaced. It is a small battery about the size of a nickle inside your tower. Change the battery and it will solve your problem.

SOURCE: Power Save mode on, can not use computer

If your computer is indeed running, simply unplug your monitor from the wall, and then plug it back in. This will bring your monitor out of power save mode instantly.

The monitor will not turn on. When power button

First--was it working?
Did it suddenly stop?
When you see the LG logo, then it goes away, does the power light turn from green to amber? Sounds like that doesn't happen.
So--if you are getting a signal, you should see something.
If there is no signal, then the power light should change from green to orange.
With no lights at all, I suspect a faulty monitor.

Dell XPS 200 Computer shuts off leaving blinking amber light

3 most common solutions to your problem are:
  1. Bad power supply; once it heats up will quit without warning
  2. Bad heatsink/fan; processor heats up and will lock up your Pc
  3. Bad motherboard
Try opening the machine and give the inside a thorough cleaning, paying special attention to the heatsink and fan. Once clean and you've ensured the fan is operating, put it back together and see if your problem is fixed. If not, a new power supply will likely fix your problem. Best of luck.

Dell XPS400 No Start!!

If you fan isn't turning like it should, it is definitely a power supply issue. Go out and purchase a power supply with 250-300 watts...thats a good standard wattage!!

You either have a hardware problem with your video card. ( may have pop out of socket when you plug in the monitor) or the cable is not allow communication to the monitor. As long as the amber light comes on you know you have power so focud on data cables and hardware.

Screen says attention no signal

Your TV is probably on the PC mode and you are not using it as a PC monitor.

You need to change the source by pressing the TV/Video button on the remote control or the SOURCE button on the TV itself. You may also just press the channel up or down buttons. Do this before the TV goes to standby mode (amber light) or while it shows the message: ATTENTION NO SIGNAL.

If it does not work, reboot the TV first and do this again.
