My adapter light is a solid red. When I plug in an ethernet cord, that'll connect.. but when I take the ethernet cable out, the 360 always reports Disconnected under Network Adapter even though the wireless adapter is plugged in.

How to set up the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter

Overview

If you connected to Xbox LIVE after October 28, 2009, a software update was installed on your Xbox 360 console to support the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter. If the update was installed on your console, all you need to do is to configure the wireless settings. To learn how to do this, please see the following article:
908877 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908877/ ) How to configure wireless settings on your Xbox 360 console
If you have not connected to Xbox LIVE since October 28, 2009, you will need to use the installation disc included with your Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adaptor to install software on your Xbox 360 console.

To install the software for a Wireless N Networking Adapter

1. If an Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter is plugged in to your console, unplug it.

2. Insert the installation disc included with the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adaptor into your Xbox 360 console.

3. Turn off the console.

4. Turn the console back on.

The software update should start automatically. If the update does not start automatically, the software might already be installed.

Note If you receive a mixed media error message, please see the section titled "Mixed media error message" below.
5. When you are prompted to install the software, select Yes, update now.

6. If a network cable is plugged in to the back of your console, unplug it.

Do not take your Xbox 360 console or accessories to a retailer for repair or service unless an Xbox support agent instructs you to do this.

Do not try to disassemble, service, or modify the Xbox 360 console, the power supply, or any accessories. If you do this, you might put yourself at risk of serious injury or death from electric shock or fire. For your own safety, such actions will void your warranty.

To connect your Xbox 360 gaming console to a NETGEAR router's wireless network:
  1. Turn off your Xbox 360 and disconnect anything from the I/O port on the back of the console.
  2. Insert your Xbox 360 wireless adapter to the I/O port as instructed by the wireless adapter manual.
  3. Connect the wireless adapter cable to your Xbox 360 I/O port.
  4. Flip up the network adapter's antenna.
  5. Turn on your Xbox 360.
    • If you are using an unencrypted wireless network, your Xbox should connect to it automatically and you do not need to proceed to Step 6.
    • If you are using an encrypted wireless network click the System tab, and then click Network Settings and continue with Step 6.
  6. On the Network Settings page, select Edit Settings.
  7. On the Edit Settings page, select your wireless settings on the Basic Settings tab.
  8. On the Select Wireless Network page, select your wireless network.
  9. On the WEP Network page, type your wireless network key, and then click Done.
  10. On the Apply Settings page, click Test Xbox Live.
  11. If this is the first time you have connected your Xbox 360 to Xbox Live, you will probably be prompted to apply an update. If there are no updates, the Xbox Live Connection page shows that you're connected to Xbox Live. Press the Y button on your controller to continue.

If testing the Xbox it says DNS failed, then update your NETGEAR router firmware:
  1. From your computer, open an Internet Browser and navigate to http://kb.netgear.com to download the firmware for your router.
  2. Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password is password or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
  3. Click Router Upgrade on the top left pane under Maintenance, browse for the firmware downloaded and click Upload.
  4. Wait for the router to reboot.

What are the steps to hooking up your xbox 360 wireless network adapter

Hello

Plug the wireless USB adapter into the USB port on the back of the Xbox 360 console.

Turn on your Xbox 360 console.

The console will recognize the wireless adapter and will walk you thru the wireless network setup. Be sure to have your WEP key (if encryption is used) for your router before you start this process.

This adapter works well - I am using one and regularly play Modern Warfare 2 with multiple chat sessions. There is no noticable difference between my wired network connection and this wireless network connection.

Happy gaming!

Xbox 360 wireless

There should have been an instruction manual that came with your wireless adapter. But anyways, you may be connected to a password protected router and need to put in the password via the dashboard. I'm pretty sure you would goto network settings and then select the network you'd want to connect to.
