I replaced my control board on my MDE5500AYW and now my dryer constantly tumbles if it is plugged in. You have to set it to heat. Did I do something wrong in hooking up the panel to cause it to constantly tumble? I have been unplugging it every time I am not using it and it is a pain.

SOURCE: Dryer runs, tumbles clothes, but does not heat

PSUinNC The first thing you have to do is to check in what position is the temperature switch . If the temperature switch is in the "air fluff" position, then the heater will stay "off". If this is not an issue, reset the circuit breaker. The motor needs only 120V to run, but the heater needs 240V and if one of legs is missing, the dryer would not heat. If it did not solve the problem, you have to perform full diagnosis. You will need some simple hand tools and a meter to check a continuity. If you are fillng you can handle it, let me know and I'll give you the step by step instructions. Gendos...post back

SOURCE: MAYTAG GAS DRYER TUMBLES BUT NO HEAT (FRONT LOADER 6 YRS. OLD)

Hello maryfitgera,
It certainly sounds like you are not getting a flame established in your dryer. That can be one of several components such as a non-resettable thermal fuse, gas valve assembly or control relay to that gas valve assembly. Unless you are well versed on how to work on these kinds of components, I suggest you just call in an appliance tech or.. let me know if you want to attempt diagnosing and repairing it yourself. Be advised that there are elements of danger in so doing. Let me know how you want to procede on this and I'd be happy to walk you thru it..
Regards,
Rick

SOURCE: Dryer runs, tumbles clothes, but does not heat

i am sending you all the possibilities for your problem, check either of these causes ----and than let me know if it is solved----

Power from the house
Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers--your dryer uses two fuses or circuit breakers. The dryer could tumble but not heat if only one of the two fuses is blown. If you have circuit breakers, one of the two circuit breakers can trip, even if the two for the dryer are connected.

Heating element
Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.

Thermal fuse
On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

Wiring
A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.

The ignitor may be bad you can chek to see if there is 110volts when the dryer is allin by unplugging the wire to the ignitor and putting using a multimeter to chek for voltage at the wires. If there is power to the ignitor and the ignitor is not glowing up then the ignitor is probably bad replace the ignitor.

Maytag dyer problems

it sounds like the control board is going bad but i wouldn't buy any parts for this dryer, soon you won't be able to get parts for it,put the money into a new dryer not to mention that the neptune products is what took maytag out and now whirlpool owns maytag.you could also have a problem with one of the connections or a bad wire in one of the connections and when you move the wires it's working again and this could be from the heat, after years the wires get brittle, you could buy the new board, put it in and if it's a wire you're back to square one,but from what you say it's either a wire in one of the connections or the board.good luck with your dryer.

Controls
  • The control unit on the tumble dryer will vary among different makes and models. The main purpose of the controls is to allow the user to select the drying cycle. You can choose the time and temperature setting on most units, while others allow custom settings such as moisture sensors and end-of-cycle alert signals. The controls may include a dial or a touch panel and LED screen display. Some tumble dryers allow you to independently select the appropriate time for the load you are drying and separate programs for temperature.
Motor
  • The motor inside the tumble dryer spins the basket to allow the clothes to tumble while being dried. The tumbling action allows the air to pass through the clothing to dry them faster. Heating laundry that is stagnant will likely dry the clothing on the outside while leaving damp clothing inside the pile. The constant motion, along with the heat and steam created by heating the clothing, reduces wrinkles. The motor also powers the fan that delivers the heated air to the basket of laundry. The heater can be an electrical element or gas powered.

Dryer tumbles but no heat. Replaced Thermal

Howdy: Those are good shotguns. It could be the firing ignitor. Two solenoids control the signal to the element. If thay stick it keeps the element on too long or too shot. Take it down to test at Sears. Good luck - Doug

My Maytag dryer model number MDE5500AYW has lights on, but won't switch settings. It is stuck in time dry at 18 minutes. Yesterday it was on sensor dry 47 minutes. Do I need a new control board inside...

OK, your control board and LED are integrated, so you will need to just replace the control board. I would try a hard reset before replacing the board. Pull the plug or, shut down the appropriate breaker switch for 5 minutes. Re apply power after the 5 minutes are up. if you continue to experience this fault, replace the control board asap.
