Washer is ripping my clothes

My Whirlpool Duet front loader is ripping my clothing/sheets.  I checked inside the machine to see if there was anything stuck inside that could be snagging the clothing...nothing.  It is mainly lightweight clothing and sheets....all of the rips/holes appear to be the same exact size.  When I first got this machine, small articles of clothing would get stuck inside the rubber piece at the opening of the machine.  They replaced the rubber with a sturdier piece and now that only occasionally happens.  Help!  It is ruining a lot of my stuff...some of it brand new.

I also have the same washer and the same problem. I won't even bother calling whirlpool as I know they won't do anything.

I too have the same issue. Doesn't matter the size of the load, nor the speed, it rips something in almost every load. I've lost nearly as much in clothing as what I've paid for the machine. Totally disappointed!

Luis, what did you do to fix it? Can I fix it myself? I'm not too mechanical.

Hi I have had this problem. Per Technical Service Pointer W10539798, The solution is to replace the glass door to the washer with a redesigned door AND replace the large rubber gasket or bellows between the tub and door. I found the new door (used: part number W10388315 or 8540428) and bellows (new) separately on amazon for about $130 all in. Installation took a couple of hours. Problem fixed.

I bought the Whirlpool Duet to replace my old standard washer & dryer and I find that the wash time is longer than the old washer. Even the quick wash takes about 1 hour. Am I doing something wrong...

I assume from your comment that your old washer was a top loader. Yes, front loading machines typically have longer cycle times than top loaders. There are several contibuting factors... first of all, the wash action of a front load is to oscillate the drum back and forth as well as provide a slow tumbling motion whereas a top loader w/ agitator or impeller has a more aggressive action. The more aggressive action rolls and tumbles your clothes more often and therefore cleans faster. Also, because front loaders spin very fast (up to twice as fast as top loaders) to reduce the amount of moisture left in the clothes, they need to have balanced loads. They accomplish this by testing and rebalancing your load several times during each cycle before beginning to spin.

That was a long answer to your question- no, you are not doing anything wrong.

Good luck.

Suds indication

Hi!

For a top loader, a general rule of thumb is to lay clothes loosely inside the washer until they reach the top of the agitator. For a front loader, fill it until it's full, with minimal compression of the clothes.

Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

My Whirlpool Duet front loader is ripping my clothing. It looks like it is being pulled, the area they are ripped looks like they are being pulled! I checked inside the machine to see if there was anything...

My washer ruined 2 king sheets 3 shirts and brand new jogging suit, so I know what you mean! The rubber gasket ...it had 2 metal bands..one on the inside which is a wide one and a small thin one on the outside of the gasket. You really can't see the wide one unless it has started to slipped off or break. or by taking the ting one off,..my wide band came loose which caused the screw to be exposed just enough for something to catch on it, tearing the material, it kept wrapping around and around untili eventually the band came completely off. I hope this helps.

Allergic to detergent for front loaders

I have always used regular Tide powder in mine and my kids use Tide liquid in it. You just need to use about half as much. My man is a motor head so he gets DIRTY and I have three teens so I wash a lot of very dirty clothes. My clothes get very clean and I have never purchased the "special" Detergent.

I have had my Duet for three years.
