I recently changed the water filter. The initial fill/flush over flowed the glass. The dispenser failed to stop when glass was removed. after it did stop, the water flow was very slow. Assuming I had a filter problem, I was furnished another filter. The same problem occurred when changing the filter.
I had the same problem when switching to Pur filters. There are two curved wedges inside the end that hold the filter away from its connection. It turned out that they were just a little to short, putting the end of the filter to close to the connection, and that's all it took to restrict the water flow. I went to the hardware store and found a thin plastic washer that would add some space (it was for a faucet diverter of some kind, thinner than a dime). It added just enough space for good water flow. Another benefit was it helped stop the icemaker line from freezing. A simpler solution might be to make sure to get factory-original filters.
Thank you! Same problem here. Not sure I agree with the technical assessment of the problem, but the solution worked. I think the problem is that the little flanges inside the throat of the filter are what engage the two triggers on the filter head in the fridge. If there's not enough pressure on the triggers, the water flow will be reduced. I'm guessing this is either a design flaw with the new filters used in older fridges, or maybe decreased sensitivity with my filter head. I'm going to replace the filter head anyway, since it has a small leak. We'll see if that resolves the problem for good.

When you change your water filter you must purge the line to remove any air or it will continue to flow all over the floor use as large a container as possible it will require you to draw at least 2 gallons of water to purge air in line. Your inlet valve is the reason your water flow is slow it is clogged with sediment from your water supply it needs to be replaced.
I had been struggling with this issue for over a year!!!! Our repairmen couldn't figure it out. Once I read about the idea of adding a plastic washer, I realized it is because most all the new filters have the same design flaw. When you look at the light blue plug that came with the frig and compare it to the filter head, you can actually see the difference! The filters head's little plastic lips are indeed too short, making for too tight of a seal. All I did was NOT TURN the new filter all the way clockwise. Just a tiny bit before a full lock. That did it. Full water pressure. No leaks. Wow. Hope this helps!

If the filter is clogged and you are not able to immediately replace it, leave the filter out so the water system is in bypass mode. With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing. However, in order to have filtered water, you will need to install a new filter.
All Genuine Maytag Water Filters retain beneficial fluoride and are NSF Certified for drastically reducing chlorine taste and odor, particulates, lead, mercury and cysts.
To ensure glass after glass of clean, refreshing ice and water, change your filter yearly or whenever the system light indicates.

The information above should get your water working. If not please listen for a solenoid buzz as you actuate the water in door function. No buzz either the dispenser is locked off or.... you have a valid warranty claim.

Thank you so much bruceharvey!!!! We had tried every other "fix" (changed the filter, flushed the lines, thawed the water reservoir, replaced the water valve, etc.) without success. We cut a washer out of a plastic container, and it totally fixed the problem. Can't thank you enough for posting the solution.
