Unless you have the part in hand, which you could take to a specialized machinery or spring supplier to see if they could match it up, the only other way to get the correct part is to contact ryobi direct and talk to their parts department. They will be able to tell you the part number, and if available, send you one out direct from their warehouses.

First you have to determine if it is the spindle or the chuck assembly. I would go to ereplacementparts.com and look at a breakdown for this tool so you know what the parts look like and then go from there. I couldn't find the schematic on the Ryobi site.

If this is a new tool I would take it back and get it replaced. The only other way to eliminate this problem is to determine if it is the spindle or the chuck and replace the defective unit. Warranty works better.

I just bought the exact drill press #55-5917-0 and I had to assemble it . The shaft that the chuck is on is tapered and the chuck is tapered on the inside , so you will have to put a wedge on each side of it and lightly tap on the wedges until the chuck drops out.
