Ensure fresh gas is in tank. Follow gas line from tank to carb. Have locking pliers ready to pinch off gas line or close gas line valve. Remove gas line from carb. observe gas flow to carb. Remove carb bowl from bottom of carb. Attach gas line to carb. Does gas flow to carb. Observe float, float down gas flows, float up no gas flow. If float is bad replace float assembly or carb. Remove float mounting pin and needle metering valve. Use a bread wrapper pealed back an inch so thin wire can clean out port of meter needle. Use wire to clean out center port. Observe bowl screw look for hole thru screw, clean out with wire if preset. Re-assemble carb. Clean replace air filter. Fill oil. 30w. Prime motor, pull rope 10 times to start. No start, replace carb.

Why does my Toro GTS 6 hp lawnmower start then die?

Have you cleaned out the fuel jet ? if you have a fuel bowl on the bottom of your carb take it off and clean it out anbd look at the bolt that lolds the bowl on I could have little holes in it. This is the fuel jet and will not run if it is plugged.

Carburetor Cleaning TUNE UP of Toro 6 5HP Lawnmower with Tecumseh Engine

The above link will provide a video on how to clean the carb on the 6.5 hp mower. Before you go to that length, try putting some carb cleaner in the fuel tank and see if that corrects the problem. Also, as the video shows, make sure the spark plug is getting a good spark. If the spark is weak , the fly wheel may be rusted, ot the magneto is bad.

Toro lawnmower Wiil not start

Remove carb float bowl. Clean bowl. Observe float bowl screw, look for hole thru bolt, if present use thin wire to clean out. Float should be hanging freely and gas should be flowing, raise float gas should stop. Pinch off gas line or use shut off valve. Remove pin from float, remove float and needle meter. Use thin wire to clean out passage were meter needle is inserted, wire should pass thru to behind choke. Replace float & meter needle. Replace float bowl. Pull rope half way several times. Inspect primer bulb for cracks or leak. Try to start, may take 5 or more pulls to prime.

Toro GTS 6.5 HP doesn't run well in grass. Any ideas?

Has the fuel filter been replaced lately? Also you can look to see if the new spark plugs are getting fouled out still. Sometimes just replacing the spark plugs wont fix the problem.

Toro recycler self propelled 6.5hp, 22" (gts)

Hi steve16092...
You may have MAJOR damage to your motor because of overfilling the oil.
Sometimes you can bend or break a piston rod when the engine is overfilled.
Meanwhile you can check a few other things.
Take your plug out and ground it against the head of the engine with the spark wire attached to it.
You should get a bright blue spark, if not then check your ignition module, it may be faulty.
If you have spark, then try putting a little bit of lighter fluid/or gasoline in the cylinder and reinstall the plug and try to crank it...if it cranks, then you may need to clean/rebuild your carburetor.

My Toro Super Cycler ran fine all summer. No it starts and then stops immediately.

Remove the bolt that holds the bottom float bowl on the carburetor and clean it thoroughly. Careful, as it has an exterior washer between the head of the bolt and the bowl. Careful with the carb body gasket above the bowl also. The brass bolt is the main jet of the carb and if you are not using an inline fuel filter, debris, dirt, sediment and gum and varnish collect on it. There are very small holes in the bottom and along the smooth sides of the bolt. Use no metal on it at all. If you need to scrape on it, use wood or plastic.

My Toro GTS 6.5 dies afetr 30 seconds and wont run

if you can see the carburetor, there is a small bowl that has a nut on the bottom side of it, remove this nut after stopping the fuel supply, inspect the nut and about half way up there will be a very tiny hole that you must clean out or unstop, this allows fuel to get to the main vent tube, and you can use a bread tie with the plastic removed; to unplug this hole or (jet). you may have to remove the air cleaner to see the float bowl. the nut is ususlly a 1/2 inch nut or 13MM. you can see a breakdown picture or diagram if you type in small engine, a carburetor repair and browse the pages a lot oftime i agree bit better than paying someone to unplug this hole for mechanics prices.
