Many laptops come with a card reader built-in. For machines that don't, a card reader can be purchased for not much more than the price of a cup of coffee.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Hi Tanya

It sounds like something was corrupted when you transferred your pictures to the computer.

If you have all the pictures safely on your computer, it will be ok to reformat the memory card and then just copy and paste the pictures back to the card.

Insert the card in your card reader, go to My Computer, you should be able to see the card as a removable drive. You can click and open it just like a folder and see what is on the card.

I would also back up the pictures to an external drive or dvd so they are extra safe!

SOURCE: my kodak easyshare M580 wont download onto my

DEAR SIR,

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer can be done by two means....

1.INSTALL THE SOFTWARE C.D GIVEN ALONG WITH THE CAMERA IN YOUR NOTE BOOK....
THEN SWITCH ON YOUR CAMERA AND CONNECT THE CAMERA TO YOUR P.C VIA U.S.B CABLE,AND WAIT FOR FEW SECONDS FOR THE P.C TO DETECT YOUR CAMERA,ONCE THE CAMERA IS DETECTED IT WILL ASK YOU,WHETHER TO COPY YOUR CAMERA IMAGES TO YOUR P.C

2..Remove the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

thank you..take care

Kodak M580 digital camera pics do not have accurate colors.

I have seen color problems on cameras that have a physical switch to change between manual settings and auto. Whenever I see the color change, I immediately look to my camera and flip the switch back to the auto position. I.e. be sure your camera is set to auto for camera settings.

I hope that helps someone.

What cable do I need to buy so I can connect my Kodak M580 Easyshare to either my laptop or my desktop computer

You don't need a cable. As I explained in my answer to your earlier question, you'll be much better off with a card reader, if you don't already have one on your computer.

Need to know how to transfer pics back to camera

From your computer "to" the camera? This seems backwards but you would pop the SD card out and put it in a card reader (your USB cable might work too) and copy the files using My Computer. the camera will appear in My Comuter as a drive letter.
