Could be that you have something in the pump. Remove the bottom panel by removing 3 screws and you will see a round cap facing you in the center of the washer at the bottom. there will be alot of excess water behind this cap so get ready with plenty of towels. Unscrew the cap as you would the gas cap on your car and all the water in the lines and in the machine will come out here. Inside here you may find a number of things. Some of the things I have pulled from them are ...coins, socks, pencils, underwear, underwires to bras. The list goes on and on. Or you may not be using "he" detergent. Use only "he" powder detergent. Use vegetable oil to remove excessive sudds build up then use 2 cups of vinegar to clean the machine on whitest whites seting.

The rinse cycle will work if the conrol knob is moved and started, it's just that it does not always go through the complete cycle on it's own. I am thinking of replacing the controller.

Kenmore HE2 washer will not automatically advance through all the cycles

I had this same /similar problem with my machine and found that the micro-computer board on the top rear near the cover of the machine are very prone to having bad electrical contacts on the board where the wire connectors go. The answer simply was to remove this board and add solder to each and every solder pad that goes to the connectors. The board is not bad (defective) just poor electrical connections. The repairman probably just wiggled the 1 with the issue and it worked for you for months as described! Perhaps you could get away with just disconnecting the electrical connectors and plugging them back in -it could buy you some more time before fixing it permanently with solder!

Good Luck!

If this machine is a Kenmore 417 Sourse (WCI) built washer with a font load, check tech sheet.I had the same problem on a Frigidaire frontload and it was the door latch/lock assembly. These machines can be tricky sometimes.Use tech sheet and make sure lock assembly ohms out ok.

HE2 front loadable washer doesn't move fm wash to rinse to drain

Sounds like the door lock. It will not advance to spin if it thinks the door is open. There is a instruction sheet inside the unit behind the lower panel. That will give the error codes for the flashing lights.

Error codes "f1" "f22" etc. and washer stops at different times

Replace water inlet valve or clean water inlet screens. Remove the water inlet hoses and take a look see. Just guessing.
