Smart UPS 1500 - battery level green lights blink on and off

I was wondering if anyone knew why a Smart UPS 1500 battery level ( which has new batteries) would continue to blink on and off green.
The UPS works fine and keeps everything powered up but the battery meter on the front display continues to blink. The lights are green and I have shut down and reset the power ups several times over - lights will set and then start to blink.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated on anything I can try to solve this issue.

You need to run recalibration on the unit.  The supplied PowerChute software & cable will allow you to do this if you hook the UPS up to a PC (I know it works with the serial cable, not sure about USB).  If you only have a MAC then I cannot offer a solution other than to buy the standalone PowerView device from APC.  It will cost a bit more than a battery, but may save you from buying needless batteries in the future.  I finally broke down an bought one, but note that I was still having the problem after the 1st recalibration.  By trial and error (and maybe a vague memory) I put my MAC in sleep mode, that dropped the load to stop the lights from flashing.  Then I recalibrated with a 22% load and now it finally seems better (lights no longer flashing).  This was with a Smart-UPS 1000.
Let me know if that helps.

Why would you yell "MAC" like that? What makes a Mac so important that you have to scream it?

You should use the Powerchute business edition software that comes with the UPS to enable you fixing the battery replacement date. when doing so battery green LED (charging level) should stop blinking.

Blinking lights

The problem is, is that while the unit is not overloaded (too much plugged in) either the batteries are close to failure, OR more likely you have so much plugged in you have less than 2 minutes of runtime.

Try removing some devices, lower the load. The row of green lights on the left is your load level indication, you want no more than 4 lit usually, 80% load is the most recommended. This will allow more runtime and should stop the flashing.

The flashing is just ment to alert you to less than two minutes of runtime.

If you have 80% load or less, and it still flashes, press and hold the on/test button until it clicks over to battery, the unit will now run a self test and switch back to main power after a few seconds and it should stop blinking.

If you want a copy of your user manual, you can find it here: http://www.refurbups.com/KB-M-Smartups (the Smart-UPS 1000)

The unit is beeping and the red light over the battery symbol ont he right hand side is blinking. Wiggling the main power cord to the unit has been the only solution. I am wondering if the system needs to...

Probably, the battery inside the unit has reached its "end-of-life".
The RED light near the BATTERY icon is the indication.

Remove the battery, and check the date on the battery.
If it is "too old", it should be replaced.
There do exist companies that will take your battery, open it up,
replace the rechargeable cells, and ship it back to you,
for a lower price than buying a brand-new battery.

APC Smart UPS 1500 will not start.

It could be that the cable to the front-panel got damaged during the battery replacement.  After all these years you would think APC would improve that aspect of their design.  All I can suggest is inspecting the cable and where it connects to the front panel.

APC Smart-UPS 1500VA

yeppers...those APC units sometimes kick the monitoring software. sometimes you need to unhook the connection cables(like a reset) so that the firmware can 'unlock' which can cause that christmas tree effect on the panel lights.
