My friend gave me an old dryer because it is not working right. It was getting hot at first, but sometimes it would stop and beep that it was done only a few minutes after it started. If I spun the dial and re-sarted it, it would finish, or I might have to do this a few times. Now I think it is not getting as hot. Can anyone help?

Hi,
If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heatingthe most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glowssometimes it is still not working properly.
if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....
If you have an electric dryer, you can have many differentthings that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.
check outthis electric no heat tip...
Lube the motor and see if it will go a bit longer. The heat makes the oil in the resrvoirs dry out with time. The motor shaft needs a thin layer of oil between the shaft and bearing. If that oil is gone the motor will get hot and die quickly. You can sometimes get her to work some more and save some money: How to lube a dryer motor
I would check the heating element...it probably shorts out once it gets hot and then touches metal that shorts it out...

This may not be tour only but I would inspect the junction block on back of unit where power cord is wired on .sometimes these terminals work loose and start arcing melting the junction then causing a short. UNPLUG UNIT BEFORE INSPECTING. you will have to remove a small inspection cover to see this block, Hope this gets you in the right direction
is it gas ? next time open dryer door and send full model number if it heats for a while you have bad gas coils, when you change them out watch out for the coil with three prongs on it,there is a metal piece that sometime gets stuck in old coil when you remove it,if it happens just poke it out of old coil and slide it back on post where new coil will be installed
With the limited information you gave I will assume this is a gas dryer that the flame starts for a minute or so and then shuts off. This problem is going to be your safety valve coils...basically they get old and over time of heating then cooling develop a short when they heat up...It may appear the gas lights to start but then goes out until the safety valve coils cool back down. Here is a picture of the coils This The coils are mounted to the gas safety valve, This should solve your problem. Hope this helps, Please feel free to comment again if you have any further questions or concerns. Good Luck! Mike
I have the same problem..really disappointed in this product. I bought mine in 07 as well..I found that if i hold all the buttons down and then hit start it (Sometimes starts), but after it starts it turns off after 10 seconds.
Probably too late to help either of you since this is so old but there are two possibilities (assuming everything else works as normal).
1st If you really mean the circuit breaker to your house, then the heating element is bad and pulling too many amps. It may be shorting out when it gets hot due to the expansion of metal.
2nd If you mean a switch on (or in) the dryer then you mean a thermal breaker (or thermal fuse). The most likely problem is that the exhaust vent for the dryer is plugged up with lint either within the dryer itself or in the part that is in your wall and exits someplace outside (could be as far as the roof). When the hot air can't escape the dryer overheats and shuts off to prevent a fire.
