I have a Harmony 520 that has sticky keys from my 2 year old handling it at the breakfast table and pouring pancake syrup on it. I cleaned it as best I can, but I need to take it apart to get the sticky stuff out that seeped into the cracks around the buttons. They are sticking, so I need to try this. Of course, Logitech offered no assistance with instructions on taking it apart nor an offer to take it and clean it, only an offer of 50% off at the over-priced Logitech on-line store. "Thanks, but, uh, you guys **** at customer service."
Here's how. Logitech doesn't cooperate on these issues. Not sure why they're so secretive, but here's the skinny.
Take the four screws out from under the batteries. On each side of the remote there are four spots (or buttons) where you have
to insert a *very thin* screwdriver or blade of some type and push to separate the cases. The first set of buttons are
located on either side of the "Glow" button. The next ones are on
either side of the <- and -> buttons. The next set is on either side of the
"Stop" and "Play" buttons. The last is on either side of
the "Activities" button. Just insert a flat edge and press as you
gently pry the casing apart with your fingers. Take your time and don't force it to open. Hope this helps.
Adding a few pics to accompany LSUTailg8er's explanation.
After having removed the four screws from the battery compartment, simply press gently on these four spots (eight total) on either side of the remote while also gently pulling the two halves of the remote apart. Some people have suggested taking the infrared shield (at the top of the remote) first, but I found that it was easier to remove once I got the two halves apart. Be careful with the infrared shield - it's held in place by a delicate little plastic clip near the power button.
