I have a manul I'm wanting to print, but now I don't want to print it. How do I stop it? And also it is printing little boxes (Not the words) What do I do about that?

Runaway print jobs are always a pain! First, power off your printer to stop it from wasting paper. If the power button doesn't work, pull its plug. That will stop the printing for now but your print job will probably restart when the power is resumed.

Whether you are using a PC or Mac, documents that you send to the printer are managed by a printer management service which is responsible for printing documents in the correct order and handling any printer problems that occur. When the printer is turned off, any documents you print will be saved (queued) for printing when the printer starts again. To fix your runaway printing problem you simply need to delete the copy of your large document that is still queued for printing.

On Windows you will see a small icon on the toolbar at the bottom right of your screen that looks like a printer. When you click on the icon you should see a window appear which has the name of your printer in the title bar (e.g. HP Deskjet) and a list of any documents waiting to be printed. To delete a print job, simply right-click on the document name in the list and select "Cancel". When asked "are you sure you want to cancel the document" click on YES and the document will be deleted from your printer queue. Repeat this for all documents in the list until it is empty, then you can restart your printer.

The process on a Mac is similar and even easier since you will see a bouncing printer icon with an exclamation point on it on your toolbar. Click on that icon to see the print queue, click on the document you want to delete and press the DELETE key to remove it.

With the printer on, pull the power plug out of the wall socket. Then power off your PC.
Wait a minute, then plug the printer power cord back into the wall. Turn the printer on, wait a minute, then power up your PC. It should print normally again.

Hi,
Alrite now, firstly, since you need only 4 pages of the 200pg document, go to File > Print > Select page range (e.g. 1-4, 51-54, etc)
Then print and make sure you have pages loaded in tray 1.

You can also have papers in tray 2. If MS Word does not respond, then change the drivers to UPD (http://www.hp.com/go/upd), the system may have legacy drivers or An earlier version of firmware.

The best is directly from the print menu, when you tell it to print, one of the things in the pop up box on most apps, like Word or Excel is "Options", or Print Options. Printing Sections in Microsoft Word
Printing Word Documents with Multiple Sections You have a document with multiple sections. When you try to print specific pages, you get either one single page, or the whole document. What you don’t get is the two separate pages you need.

First, take note of which section has the first page you want to print, and in which section the second page resides.

You need to print Page 2 of Section 1 and Page 1 of Section two.
In this particular case, the command is the usual: File | Print:


The difference in this case is how you specify the pages to be printed. In the Pages dialog box, type P2S1, P1S2 and then click OK. The comma “,” separating the two pages indicates two separate pages. The result will print Page 2 of Section 1 and Page 1 of Section 2.

If, however, you wanted to print from Page 2 of Section 1 through and including Page 1 of Section 2, the command would be P2S1-P1S2. The dash "-" indicates a range of pages, which results in printing from Page 2 of Section 1 through and including Page 1 of Section 2.

Microsoft support describes several things to try. After checking to see if any new blank document you create could print or not, the next possibility is to rename the normal.dotm file that may be necessary to resolve this problem.

Procedure to check:

"Microsoft Windows 7
  1. Quit Word.
  2. Click the Start button.
  3. In the Search Programs and Files box, type Normal.dot or Normal.dotm depending on your version of Word.
  4. For each occurrence of the Normal.dot or Normal.dotm template that you find, rename it Normal.old. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Normal.
    2. On the File menu, click Rename.
    3. Type Normal.old, and then press ENTER.
You can now print new documents that are created from the new global (blank document) template (Normal.dot). However, existing documents that were created by means of your old Normal.dot file may not print. If this is the case, go to the "Print the problem document" section to resolve problems with these documents.

If you cannot print this new document, there may be a problem that prevents Word from printing. If this is the case, go to the "Print the problem document" section.

Determine if the problem documents were created from the same custom template You may still not be able to print particular Word documents. Examine the problem documents to determine if they were created from the same custom template. To determine which template created the problem document, follow these steps:

Hi there!
The issue that you are having is because of the settings on your Microsoft Word. Here's what you can do to resolve the issue.
  1. Open the document you want to print on Microsoft Word. Click on the Orb icon on the upper left hand corner which is also called the Office button.
  2. Click on Print and click on Print again. The Print window should be open by now.
  3. On the lower left hand corner of the print window you will see the options button. Click on the Options button. You should now have the Word Options window.
  4. On the Word Options window. Click Display from the Left panel, you should see Printing Options.
  5. Make sure that under Printing Options only Print Drawings created in Word is Checked and leave the others unchecked. Click OK. Click OK again. This should print your document without the other page.

My Brother 2170w will not print from word 2010.

If your printer does not print from MS-Word 2010 and prints from another program, most probably the default printer for word is not setup to your printer.

Open the word document you want to print, click on file, print. Select your printer in the Printer selection box.
Click print. Please see image below.

This is for Windows Vista--depending on your version of Windows, some steps could be worded a little bit differently. Don't worry, you should still get to the right place eventually! :)

Go to "Start"

Go to "Control Panel"

Below "Hardware and Sound," click Printer

Right click the printer you want and select "sharing"

Click "Advanced" tab

Choose "Print directly to the printer"

Apply and then press OK

Perhaps... when you click "print", and the Print Dialogue box appears, try checking the box "Print in Grayscale". It may work, it may not (it's your printer itself that is stopping the process, not windows).

If it's not the standard Word/Excel type program, you can also trying "printing to file" through something like "PDF-Adobe PostScript Printer", which will "print" to a PDF... transfer to disk/flash drive, and head off to kinkos!
