Vertically short picture

There is a bad capacitor in the vertical circuit. Look for caps in the same circuit and either check or change them. If hte vertical IC is listed as IC301 for example, the caps in the same circuit will be marked C3xx. These are circuit designations that are printed on the board. Look for caps with values of either 47ufd or 100ufd. These are the most common ones to fail.

Keep us posted,

Picture jumps

you might have bad caps or the vertical output integrated circuit, try to locate the vertical ic and check the surrounding areas for bad capacitors.

Picture is cut off at top and bottom

I had the same problem with my westinghouse 47 inch HDTV. It turned out that someone had inadvertently hit the "format" key on my satellite (Direct TV) TV remote controller. If you have satellite TV you might want to check this out. I set it back to the previous setting and I get the entire screen. Hope this helps someone.

1 inch lines on top and bottom of screen

Is the picture overall too small by 1 in. on top and bottom? Or is it cut off by the lines?

If it's too small, look for an adjustment labeled Vertical Height. This may only be accessible internally, it's normally a service adjustment, not a user adjustment.

Your problem is a vertical deflection issue, either an adjustment or the vertical circuit requires repair by a technician. In the latter case, electrolytic capacitors are a likely cause.
