SOURCE: hp pavilion dv9000 cd player quit working

Sounds like a bad cdrom... if the BIOS / CMOS doesn't pick it up during post, need to make sure it is seated good. Otherwise, just replace it.

SOURCE: When I turn on my

Well I had this problem and fixed it for good finally. Things you will need.

3 pennies
solider
heat gun
pliers
foil

First you remove the motherboard. Which you can find on youtube. Then remove heatsink with 4 screws. And 2 screw with the fan.

Next take the heat gun and heat up the aluminum block that isattached to the heatsink. It is the only thing that looks like a silver square. Heat it up and use the plier to pull it off.

Next take the pennies and clean them real well. I use the pliers to scratch them up real good. Put one on your range and take alittle solder and put it on top. Turn the range on high and wait for the solder to melt. When it does put the next penny then more solder and then the third penny. Now take a the pliers and push down on the top penny and turn off the range let it cool before you remove the pliers. Now you have a stack of pennies solder together.

Now where you removed the metal block, Turn it over to the side with the copper pipe. heat it upwith the heat gun and fill in the gap between the pipe and the plate of copper.

Once that is done flip it over. Now put alittle solder on the spot where you plulled off the block. Heat it up with the heat gun again and put the stack of pennies on it. Make sure it centered. Let it cool and the heat sink is done.

Now go to the motherboard the second biggest chip there is the graphics chip. Make a foil square cut out a hole big enough for that chip. The chip should have a red type of glue around the corners. Put the heat gun 1 inch away for about15 secs then let cool. Once cool do it one more time for 15 secs.

After that you should be ok put the heat sink and motherboard in the case with 1 stick of ram and plug in the screen. Plug in the ac and try it out.

Mine has been working for 10 hours straight.

It's known as the "Blue Screen of Death" Because they usually require Formatting and starting over.
BUT, Not always. Write down the code that is usually along the top in white font. Google it and see if there is a cure. When I did I get several solutions like these. Be Careful you don't buy anything you don't want. Some sites are free. Note the first option below is from Micrisoft.

Good Luck.

I had the same problem on a dv9000 as well.
Did you use the laptop much on the couch/beds etc? (So the temperature went up)? My video chip became "unsoldered" by a manufacturing fault.
If above is the case, please contact your local dealer.
If not, Please try updating your videocard driver (try using save mode with networking if Windows doesn't want to startup the regular way anymore) The drivers are on HP's website, here : support.hp.com

My hp pavilion 513n has completely stopped working! I need help!

Start the computer, and keep pressing F8 until you get a "boot" menu -- white text on a black screen.
Select "safe mode with command-line", and see if Windows will start.
If it does, enter 'CHKDSK C: /F' to get Windows to check the integrity of the file-system.

Then, find a friend with a genuine Microsoft Windows XP CD-ROM. Boot from that disk, and choose "repair", and see if the boot-process can "repair" your installed copy.
