Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer. I thought the same thing, but there is nothing attached, I plugged my son's ipod in to see if that would change something but it didn't. I can't get to F8 or safe mode or anything. Just this same message.

I am curious, can you get into the BIOS? If you can, make sure that the hard-drive is the first device that the system boots off of. Also try disabling device's in the BIOS like the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM for instance and trying to boot again.

According to the error message it seems as if you have an external USB jump drive or hard-drive that might be giving you grief. Could you give me more specifics on what you had connected when you received this error message?

I had similar problem with a Dell Optiplex 760 desktop . I went to BIOS disable external SATA and all additional ports which is not used like parallel and serial ports and it worked. I think its with SATA settings only .

I had this problem with a Dell Optiplex 755, trying to install Windows 7 from CD. The solution? I put the tower on its side so the CD drive was right-side up instead of sideways. It probably read the CD better that way.

If your hard drive was running at the time you dropped it, your hard drive might have crashed. Sorry to tell you this buy you most probably need to replace the hard drive.

Windows is corrupted beyond repair, you need to reinstall it. For the recovery discs, call Toshiba at 800-457-7777. They will want to know the computer's serial number and a credit card number.

hmm seems a lil odd it appears that maybe your internal computer hard drive is failing or that its not properly connected if its happened recently with no internal computer changes then its definitely the hard drive failing on you
