My best guess is either the printer is looking for a specific type or size paper in tray 1 or it is looking for paper in the manual feed or bypass tray.

What is the setting and/or fix for no prompt at tray 1 for special media?

Set tray 1 paper size to "any size/any type". print out a configuration page to make sure that this setting took. set manual feed prompt to " unless loaded". That should work. Good luck !

Message window shows "load mp

The printer tells you to insert a letter format paper in the mp (multi purpose) feeder (the manual tray).
If you press the GO key the print probably proceeds with print job (if has the paper loaded in mp feeder)

I have a T620 that won't print from the trays because it continues to show ''Load MP tray'' on the display. When I drop down the tray and load the multi-purpose feeder, it will print what's in the queue....

Turns out that the paper tray was damaged - the tray was unable to determine the correct paper size, despite fooling with the green paper stop. I had to compare it with a known-good tray to see the problem.

Print jobs stick in prnt queue

A lot of users have no idea how to change the MS Office default from US to UK .. so they have US spellings and US paper sizes (known as 'Letter' sized) .. and (of course) any Document that started life in USA keeps it's size until some-one changes it ... since Letter size is almost the same as A4 no-one cares UNTIL they come to print it ...

I'm sure you can guess the rest :-)

Yes, the Printer is looking in it's feed tray for Letter sized paper .. yes, Letter doc's will print just fine on A4 and most printers have a setting somewhere that lets it use A4 when asked for Letter (often called "automatic A4<>Letter convert" or some such)

NB. when time permits, perhaps the unfortunate users can have their MS Office apps. set to UK mode :-)

Will not print

This usually happens when the paper tray is set to the incorrect paper size.
This printer determines what size paper is installed in it by the little "fingers" on the left side of the tray. When you adjust the paper tray, it determines how those fingers are positioned, and therefore, how the switch reads the paper size.

If the tray setting is off, even by one little click, then the machine may read the paper size as other then letter. If this happens, you send a letter size job to the printer, and it doesnt think it has letter size paper, it will tell you to put letter paper in the MPF feeder.

If the tray is definately set to letter, but the machine still thinks it does not have letter, then the tray or the switch that reads the tray is defective, but 99% of the time it is just the tray is not set correctly.

The MPF door can be open or closed 100% of the time with NO EFFECT on how the printer works.

Tray output

You should configure TRAY 1 as Legal only.
and Tray 2 as plain letter.

Specially when you specify from what tray/paper type to print.

This can be easily configured from the Printer Properties within the Printers and Faxes section of the Control Panel.

Good luck!

Paper tray selection

Go to Paper Menu > Paper Size > Tray 1 - note what the Auto setting states (Letter, A4, Legal, etc.) Pull the tray out to set what it is configured for. Then reinsert it & pull it out a few times, noting what the display show the Auto size show. It should match the tray's settings.

If the Display indicates otherwise, it means one of two things:

1) The "auto size sensing" board on the left may be defective. The left side of the tray has a matrix of 3 plastic tabs that stick out in certain order depending on the tray setting. If this board fails, it may show Executive or A4 when the tray is set for letter.

2) The tray may be in-between two settings. Try to readjust the tray length setting between sizes. (You will notice the plastic tabs will change order.) The last time you loaded paper it may have pushed it just enough so that it is no longer seen as letter by the auto sensing board.

I hope this helps...
