A wire was broken for the microphone on my lifechat lx-3000 headset. I want to just eliminate the inline volumn control and mute and hard wire the 2 ends together. does anyone have a wiring diagram for this headset and microphone. I just want to be sure that I am soldering my wires correctly.

Hi,
I bought the headset recently and on first plug-in --- nothing! But then I realized that I had to open Sound in System Preferences and select them as the output choice. Works fine, though I haven't had a chance to test it out fully. But it works!

With the infamous Vista, try:
Start --> Control panel --> Hardware and sound --> Sound --> Audio devices admin [I have a Spanish OS, I hope it is the same in the English version], then assign as default device the headset.
With Skype and other sw, you have to specifically pick the lx-3000 as the device that will be used as audio device (and the same has to be done to use the mic).
Pretty cumbersome....

I tried following eligiomanuel's instructions. I have exactly the same problem and it didn't help. I've tried everything I can think of. Does anyone have any suggestions?
