This is somewhat of an unusual heater, in that it's only sold in Europe . In any event, an Hour Glass or "Sand Glass" as you called it, usually refers to a timer. Just like the hour glass on a computer when it's loading a page or program. What does this mean for your heater, it's going through some type of a timing function. Could be that it's trying to reset itself. Or the thermostat (since it appears to be a programmable one) may be going into a rest mode. I just can'r be sure.
I tried doing some research n Valiant heaters and the only things I could find were Valiant Tankless Water Heaters or Combi Heaters. Is this what you have?
From <http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=419733&modelname=WF409ANW&modelcode=&session_id=V5mMmkpq72BqyQB5Lny5vwblqvWTyT6hLbGQypLMbhMpMhlQBdfJ!-943087853!1669102353!1442424460210&from_osc=&homeid=2217>: "The hour glass is displayed to let you know the washer's timer is counting down. This is normal, and does not require service."
Unfortunately the hour glass symbol remaining on the screen is indicative of a firmware failure. Unless you're a real wizard and know how to reload the firmware, you'll need the support of an onsite engineer.
Could it be that the SD card is not fast enough? I think that SD 40x or SDHC class 6 is needed from my experience (I am not sure what it says in the manual). What speed/class is the card you are using? I get these sort of problems intermittently on my HD2 (the predcessor to the HD1000) when I use a slower card.
This should help. When the hourglass symbol stays on, press and hold down the start button for at least 15 seconds. The screen should clear and then you can navigate back to the correct opening screen and select music, videos, photos etc. as you require.
