This printer requires special software to print labels with. It uses a unique PCL language to work with. Thats why when you use these printers with Fedex or UPS software, it typically downloads forms first before working.

Zebra used to see a label designer program to work with it. You might want to check with them to see if they still carry it.

SOURCE: Zebra printers & MS Word

HI Les1810,

You should be printing faster with Zebra fonts.
Which driver are you using? Version?
I strongly recommend the Zebra Designer V1.3.08, available at Zebra.com

To isolate the problem, capture the output to a file.
Define a local port as C:\output.txt and set that as the port in driver properties.
Now print your document. The printer commands will be in C:\output.txt.

Send c:\output.txt directly to your printer.
For LPT1, use the DOS copy command to send the file. (Copy C:\output.txt LPT1)
For serial connections, use Hyperterm to send the file.
For network connections, use ftp.
No easy USB method is readily available.

Does this print faster than printing the original document from Word through the driver?
If yes, then update your driver.
If no, debug your communication to the printer (LPT1, serial, network, etc.)

SOURCE: just tell me how to

To reset the printer.
1) Turn printer off.
2) Hold down feed button whilst turning printer on.
3) Let go of the feed button as soon as it starts to flash and then wait.
4) Printer will measure out 4 labels then print out a Hex dump ending with a not to "Push Feed to Exit"
5) Push feed

Follow the above instructions, if you mess around tapping the feed button (not following the above) you can change the printer between line mode and page mode. To swap that back is another storey.

The printer driver should be set to Continuous or it will think it is still Gap or Black Mark. Please adjust accordingly

Advancing blank labels inbetween printing

Do you use adhesive labels? It looks like the printer is unable to make the difference betwen the labels. Verify that the printer it's not set on Continuous mode for the media type. Verify if there is any label (or pice of label) stiked on the upper media sensor (gap sensor). You can locate the upper media sensor using the User Manual (page 74). There is an User Manual available for download from Zebra website. You will find there precious information. My printer won't caliberate using a 1.25 inch circular label. The label stock is white, the backing is an opaque whiteish with black lines between each...HELPPPPP

Zebra printers use 2 methods to sense the gap between labels. Transmissive or Reflective. Your labels have a black mark on the backing. Your printer uses these black marks to detect the gap between your labels. Ensure that your printer's mode is set to REFLECTIVE & check that your printer driver media also is set to BLACK MARK. Print a config label to look at your printer settings.

Cant print on butterfly label with Zebra TLP 2844 printer

This is a problem of label sensing.

You are probably using the Gap sensor on the 2844, unfortunately the shape of the butterfly labels means you are sensing the wide gap between the labels in the centre, so it will not print anything in the apparent gap area on both ends of the label.

What your label or system supplier should have done is supplied you with the same labels but with a 3mm wide black mark on the underside of the label backing paper, centred between the labels. You can then change the printer sensor setting in the driver to Black Mark. You will then be able to print anywhere between the black marks.
Any problems with this contact us directly at Lancer labels Ltd

Skips Bar Code Labels

It could be software related.  The best way to find out is to restart the computer where the labels are coming from.  Turn your printer off and back on again as well.  Run the program that loads the forms into the printer to print with.
Is the printer on an ethernet connection or is it connected to a computer?
