Hi,

sound through experience you have a air leak possible from a gasket or oring if so equipped. take some wd 40 and spray around the carb gaskets and seams. if this stabalises the surging or smooths it out it is definatley seeping air around it. in any case you will most likely need to take the carb back apart and repair or replace the gasket. hopes this helped. happy mowing!

Engine surge is usually caused by one of two things...
1) a lean condition. Not getting enough fuel.
2) throttle plate shaft in carb is worn. usually clears up when engine is put under a load. You can live with it or replace the carb

I have an onan 5500 marq gold and it keeps surging changed out the gas and flushed out the lines and carb, put a load on it and continued to get 110-120 volts with the ac on. i hold the choke on and i

Had a similar problem. I realized that the fuel was not metering properly, in other words, it was running out of fuel so I assumed that either the jet in the carb or one of the metering passages was clogged. I took the carb apart and cleaned the heck out of it, running cleaning fluid and using small wires to clean out passages and put it back in and it worked fine. It is also important to have a good filter on the fuel line going to the carb. I relied on the one that is in the fuel tank for a while and realized that it deteriorated until it was not filtering well. I put an inline filter on the fuel line between the fuel tank and the carb. Hope this helps.

Water in engine? please help!

Pls make the following checks with the engine off and cold,
1)Take the radiator cap off.
2) Make sure your hands are clean and dry.
3)Put your index finger into the radiator cap hole for 1 second.
4)Remove your finger and check it for oil.
5)If you get oil on your finger your cylinder head gasket has blown .
6) You must then drain the engine of its oil and water mixture and replace the cylinder head gasket, dont drive the vehicle for it's just gonna make the repairs more expensive for you.

My Briggs and Stratton 300 148 cc lawn mower surges up and down while running. Seems to run best when almost out fuel

You most likely have a partially clogged carb (main jet) and it isn't allowing enough fuel for the engine to run smoothly. This is fairly common. The carb needs to come off, get disassembled, and cleaned paying close attention to the small opening in the main jet.

Do you have any info on lawn mower carbs?

If this is a carb-on-the-tank Briggs engine, replace the rubber diaphragm that fits between the carb and the tank. Almost certain fix.

Check the electric fuel solenoid make sure there is voltage to it when engine is running. This model may have 3 relays on the engine harness and one of them is tied into the fuel valve try switch relays. Also check connectors on ignition switch sometimes one terminal can get corroded and cause problems. Also check the plunger on it to be sure it is moving freely. Also the fuel filter is usually half full, there is almost always some air in it.

Took apart carb cleaned and now there is no mid or high range

did u install new gaskets, the engine might be sucking air from outside the carbs. u can use a propane torch (not light) spray a little around outside of the carbs, see if engine sounds different, if it does... leaky gasket.. u might check there is no unplugged vaccum hose.

I have compression, spark, and gas/oil mix. engine not starting.

When cleaning the carb., use a De tek Brush,(used for cleaning between teeth), to clean the small portals. The smallest particles can keep it from running. More than likely though, It will be the small screen in carb. It can become clogged up to the point where you can't even see daylight through it; not good!
