The Acer Aspire line of netbooks have two methods to restore the computer to a working state: System Restore, an application included with Windows, or Acer eRecovery Management, a proprietary application that is packaged with Acer PCs.

If errors appear when running Windows, or if the computer begins to behave strangely, first run System Restore to determine whether reverting the PC to a previous state fixes the problem.
If the problem remains unresolved, or worsens, you can use Acer eRecovery Management to format the hard drive and reload the Acer Aspire netbook to its factory state.

Navigate to the "Start" menu. Select the "Control Panel."
Type "restore" into the Search box.
Press "Enter" then select "Restore Your Computer to an Earlier Time" from below the "Action Center."
Click "Open System Restore."
Click "Next" on the "Restore System Files and Settings" screen.

Select a restore point that was created when the computer was functioning properly. Click "Next," then click "Finish."
Click "Yes" to confirm.
Windows will perform a system recovery on the Acer Aspire One.

Acer eRecovery Management

Turn on the Acer netbook. Hold down the "Alt" and "F10" buttons simultaneously on the boot screen to load Acer eRecovery Management from the recovery partition.

Select "Restore Operating System to Factory Defaults" from the options.

Click "Next" to recover the system to its original state.

How to reinstall the Operating system on your computer

Select models, with Microsoft Windows, have the ability to have the Operating System reinstalled from a hidden partition built into the computer.
Note: During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend making a backup of all personal data before starting the recovery process.
To start the system recovery:
1.Restart the computer.
2.When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
3.If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
4.After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Acer Recovery Media Order Form..
Note: If your computer does not have an internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be required in order to recover the Operating System using Acer Recovery Media.
1.Restart the computer.
2.When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly to enter the computer's Boot Menu.
3.Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
4.Close the CD-ROM tray.
5.Refer to on screen instructions to select either CDROM or USB CDROM.
6.The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
7.When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.

Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first of the Recovery CDs.

8.After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: if your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery, please contact Acer support.

Find a boot device?

You need to obtain a recovery CD for your operating system. It will give you some recovery options which may work. If not you will probably have to reload the operating system. You might be lucky and there is a hidden recovery partition to set the machine back to factory state. Google your machine for recovery partition option.

My acer aspire will not boot can you help

I think the operation system is corrupted and the action to do is press the key specified on screen to get to the boot menu ..and select the recovery partition if you have one ..In this option select to total reinstall the operation system and will work after that .
To engage the recovery if it does not work with the boot menu ..try to see if F11 works ..usually this key is reserved for recovery procedure alone ..
If you do not have a recovery partition you will need a recovery disk and the same procedure Boot from disk and reinstall the system or ..a Boot-able disk with operation system on it to reinstall the system from scratch ..
let me know if you have other issues related with this ..

For a factory reset there are two installation options:
C:\ drive recovery
System recovery

System recovery will rebuild the partition. C drive recovery will simply re install the C drive on the active partition. When you do full system recovery we create a hidden partition that is read only. this gives you the F10 boot-able recovery partition tools.hit f-10 on boot up
