My whirlpool range control panel was dirty. This is the panel that has the knobs around the digital display on the back of the cooktop. I took a sponge to it with an aggressive cleaner. I'm pretty sure I wore the plastic finish down and now it's smudged black; appearing dirtier than before I cleaned it. It looks awful. Any suggestions before I replace the entire control panel?!?

When this code appears and display is going blank too, it is always the control board. The only option is to buy a new one or get it repaired. It can be fixed quickly and reliably. www.fixyourboard.com
SOURCE: Whirlpool Oven Died During Cleaning Cycle No Display Now Locked
Had same problem with my KitchenAid. 10 years old. Ran self cleaning cycle, oven died!!!! Called repair. Appears to be thermal fuse. Part on order. Microcomputer had some brown spots on it. Tey wanted us to replace it too. But will wait to see if fuse is problem. Repair - $150 vs. $570. If it's the higher price, we'll buy a new oven before putting that kind of money into it. Will NEVER run a clean cycle again even if I have to buy a new oven.

If after turning off power to the unit you pull the top control panel out, you may have to slightly pull out unit to get at some screws, do not let it tip on you. There usually is some technical data pages with schematic behind the control panel, some show the location of the fuse, others just the wiring. May have the fuse on the top or back, I don't know exact location. Besides a fuse problem on repairs, sometimes boards do go bad, the more expensive repair, usually one or the other.

The E1- F5 error is a door lock error.
The control (TIMER) has likely failed in this instance - BUT...
Sometimes when you disconnect power to a range and reconnect it the electronic range control gets confused.
You should disconnect power again for 15 seconds and reconnect and see if that helps.
If it doesn't cure the E1- F5 error hold the bake button in until E0- F2 appears in the display.
This is the error for a stuck button on the keypad and is the way to clear the memory of the electronic range control.
Sometimes these work, but if the control has failed it won't make any difference.
