Red power light and buzzing sound with red lamp light.

I have a sony KDF-E60A20 projection TV. I recently purchased a replacement lamp (in route) because the picture is going dim and noticed the internal brightness dim as well, found out it is the lamp going bad. Tonight, the screen went black and had a red flashing light from the power source indicator light with an intermittent buzzing sound coming from behind the TV. After turning the TV off and on again, the power light lit normal green, but went to red flashing with the buzzing sound, and in addition to the red power light, the lamp light is red. My concern is: Is the flashing power light and buzzing sound associated with the lamp going completely out? Also, once the power light goes from green to red flashes, it has a steady red light along with buzzing sound and lamp light lit.

The new replacement lamp fixed the problem. The owner's manual does not tell you that when the lamp is going bad that the red power light will flash and then go steady (only states the lamp light) nor does it tell you that a buzzing arcing sound will happen when you turn the TV on (only a possible popping). Also, the manual tells you that when the bulb pops the broken pieces are contained within the main bulb. This is true; however, there is a screened opening at the top of the lamp that is open to the environment and the broken pieces, so hopefully no mercury vapor or dust ejected into my TV set when the bulb broke apart. Be careful to keep the lamp in the upright position for this reason when replacing. Also, does anyone know why the dust is green when wiping around the lamp area or is this mercury fallout from the bulb breaking? If so, wonderful! (sarcasm)

If the lamp does not light at all, it is probably a bad lamp. The buzzing may be the ballast trying to start the lamp or a problem with the power supply. Check the lamp and see if the arc tube is broken. If its a new lamp, you should be under warranty. I have the manual if you want to go to me site at allprojectorlamps.com. Just send you email to me attention Bulb Guy

My Sony lost its picture and had a flashing light. Unplugging for 36 hours solved the problem.

I'm having the same problem with my tv (wega sony kdf e60a20) just like a few other people here, with the sensor cutoff fuse, how do you replace this item?

If you mean the thermal fuse, the set should have a red blink code of 5 blinks. The thermal fuse is way inside on the frame of the lamp housing but can be tested with rear cover removed.

If you have one bad the red blinking light will have to display some code.

I have a sony kdf 50e-2000 the green light goes on then it goes to thr red blinking lamp light. I have no sound or picture. If I replace the lamp light will I get sound and a picture again?

Hi,
Yes, if you have not replaced the lamp since you purchased this TV.
Lamps usually last about 6000 hours.
I've seen lamps last much longer than 6000Hrs, it all depends on the usage.
Remove the lamp from the TV and do a visual inspection, see if there's a crack on the glass or the bulb.
If the TV is few years old then the Lamp may be bad.

DO NOT BUY the lamp from ebay

Good luck to you.

Hi,
Below info are related to Sony KDF-E60A20 lcd projection tv.
5 times red light blinking indicates problem with lamp drive circuit (ballast supply board) that is not producing high voltage for lamp to generate high bright white light.
Check/ replace ballast supply board in above mode tv to solve this problem.
If you tv model is different, let me know to provide you related info.
Thanks

2 possible reasons, either Lamp is gone or Ballast Supply got bad.
Replace lamp first, in most cases it solved the problem.

Tv won't turn on red lights blinking

You are hearing the spark gap mounted on the lamp ballast board. If you can hear that sound, that means everything in the lamp driver circuit is working except the lamp!

Get a new lamp.
