This has happened to me so many times, with Vista and XP. I had to go on another computer and download the drivers from the website for my PC model, and download them and put them on a flashdrive and install them on my PC I had the issue with. They worked than, I had an issue with my Ethernet port. So hopefully this helps.

SOURCE: installing new Window xp and other devices didnt works

take the side of the computer off and look for the model number on your motherboard. you need to know if your using a network card or if its onboard Lan. if everything you need is onboard all you need to do is search your motherboard number on the internet and download the drivers. you need can select what you need, sound, lan etc. your goning to have to use a friends pc so you can download these files. when your Lan is installed go to the microsoft webpage and get the latest updates, that will solve the usb in your device manager

First i would double check to make sure that the device is windows vista compatable and is compatable for your system next i would uninstall the device using device manager and than select view and select scan for hardware changes and let the computer reinstall the device and it will let you know that your device has been found and is installing than it will let you know that your device is installed and is ready to be used or it wil give you a error message if so than i would contact the manufacturer of the device and see what they say about the message ok?

After installing vista service pack 1 my dvd rom is gone.

Download the latest driver for dvd rom from Acer that will work with Vista SP1. Also try uninstalling the device in device manager and restart your computer. Vista may find "new hardware" and install the driver from its driver pack in SP1.
