Need a battery for honda eu3000is

I was not able to start my newly purchased, but used honda eu3000is generator with the electric start. The pull cord worked fine. Come to find out the people I bought it off of had pulled the battery out for some reason. Can I just go to home depot and buy a battery that would be used for an electric start lawn mower or something? Or do I have to buy a factory original honda battery?
Thanks,
Brian

Brian...The Honda eu3000iS uses a Yuasa YTZ10S out of the factory to start the generator. You can purchase an equivalent online the Yuasa YTZ10S is a battery that is widely used in motorcylces and some garden equipment. Shop around they can be found costing in the range of $50 to $100 depending on the website you check. Use a 10mm socket wrench to remove the front cover. Clean the battery slot out and push the retaining strap & wire leads out of the way. Tilt the top of the battery towards you at a 45 degree angle and inset bottom first sliding the battery into its slot. Secure with the rubber strap and connect the positive to positive and negative to negative leads. If looking at the front the positive lead in on the inside! Good luck!

You can either purchase the new battery from a Honda Generator repair provider or from Batteries Plus. Both will cost you about $60. They will tell you that a new battery is good for a year or two. It will last longer if you keep it on a trickle charger when not in use. Kind of a pain to remove the three panels to gain access to the battery compartment, but not impossible.

No, you don't a factory ordered battery.

Yes you can use an after market battery as long as it is of the proper voltage (6vdc or 12vdc) for that system, and it has the proper dimensions (overall size) so as to fit in to the battery tray.

If possible take the generator with you to easily check your new battery's fit, while at the store.

I purchased our EU3000IS in 1993 and have made it a habit to run the generator for 30 minutes once a month. The original battery is still fine. I would not recommend a trickle charger unless it is a multi-stage charger designed for the Ah capacity of the battery. In any event you SHOULD exercise the generator monthly to use some fuel, warm it up, and to circulate the oil. If you run it monthly, the charger would be a waste of $$.

This should read 2003, not 1993

SOURCE: Honda EU3000is generator will not start with electric starter.

I'd say your battery in the generator is going bad or bad. They are very small and do not hold a charge for very long. The noise you heard was probably the starter shaft hitting the flywheel cogs. I doubt any harm was done as long as you did not repeatedly try to start it with the key. Why Honda put a battery in these is because they are intended for use in a campground setting, where they would be used on a daily basis and the battery would constantly charged. Whereas people like us buy them for emergencies only, they sit for long periods, and the battery goes flat, and the fuel clogs the carb and we get the surging issue. That's my 2 cents. When I brought mine home new, I Sta-bil'd the heck out of the gasoline, this past winter, on start-up, the unit surges. Of course the battery was flat.

SOURCE: electric start will not work

You should remove the battery and charge it up outside the machine then take it to your local auto parts store where they will load test it for free. It must be fully charged to test. Most of the time those small batteries are dead due to the heat produced in the machine. These batteries only run about $30 or less usually.

Note: BEFORE CHARGING if the battery is not sealed ensure the battery water level is good (no exposed plates, usually the water is about 1 1/2" below the top of the holes). Use pure bottled water if you need to add water.

Start the engine

I assume you refer to a 6500 watt Honda, if it's electric start/and manual(pull cord) First supply a 12 volt battery /if you haven't put fresh gas in it do the best you can to remove all the old gas from the tank and you should find drain screws and small hoses on the lower part of the carburetor. After completing this step add about 1 gallon or so of fresh gas, remove the air filter system from the face of the carburetor ,with a small squirt bottle put a tea spoon or so of gas into the of the carb, close the choke and turn the key, if it fires let it run with the choke closed for only a few seconds then slowly open the choke fully, if the engine stalls close the choke and start the engine again do not leave the choke closed for extended periods as this will cause engine flooding and spark plug failure. Also be sure you have inspected the existing spark plug to be sure it's clean if there is any question about the plug change it.

I have a 5 year old EU300is that would not start with or without the battery. I went through all the usual such as gas, plug, oil, etc. The battery showed 12 volts, however, when tested further it would not hold a load. I bought a new American made battery and now the unit runs fine.

Honda eu3000is runs fine with pull cord, but when you use the elec start the starter motor turns but will not engage.

Probably the Bendix needs lube. This is the spiral that the pinion gear runs on.

Remove the starter and inspect to insure the pinion gear is in good shape and the bendix is free to move. also verify that the solenoid throws the pinion out to engage.

You can bench test the starter to verify operation.

Also check condition of the ring gear via the starter mounting hole.

Hi, You need to check the ignition plug behind to ensure it is still working fine. You will need a spanner for this and unscrew it anticlockwise.
