ohhhhhh a running Gateway, (nastalgic to the max)
the beeps are gfrom the motherboard.
they have meaning,]'
there is no standard, only the gateway book on your PC
covers it. t
these are called cold boot errors from BIOS ROM.
can be bad memory
or bad video card.
if you have 2 or more memory sticks?try them one at a time in bank 1 slot (lowest)
if that works try a spare video card.
Did you check your monitor with other system or individually. If it works fine in these conditions then the issue belongs to your pc. First of all, you have to confirm that is it the problem of VGA itself or the motherboard. For this, you have to see that does system beep when you start it because system with beeps having the error and the beep sound with continuous or 2-3 beeps relate with different issues. I am going to write down the beep conditions.
1 short beep
Normal POST - system is ok
2 short beeps
POST Error - error code shown on
screen
No beep
Power supply or system board problem
Continuous beep
Power supply, system board, or
keyboard problem
Repeating short beeps
Power supply or system board problem
1 long, 1 short beep
System board problem
1 long, 2 short beeps
Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA)
1 long, 3 short beeps
Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)
3 long beeps
3270 keyboard card
The beep codes below may help you identify the possible computer problems. However, they are only for reference purposes. The situations might differ from case to case. gAMI BIOS Beep Codes *Computer gives 1 short beep when system boots successfully. *Except for beep code 8, these codes are always fatal. 1 beep Refresh failure 2 beeps Parity error 3 beeps Base 64K memory failure 4 beeps Timer not operational 5 beeps Processor error 6 beeps 8042 - gate A20 failure 7 beeps Processor exception interrupt error 8 beeps Display memory read/write failure 9 beeps ROM checksum error 10 beeps CMOS shutdown register read/write error 11 beeps Cache memory bad g AWARD BIOS Beep Codes 1 short: System boots successfully 2 short: CMOS setting error 1 long 1 short: DRAM or M/B error 1 long 2 short: Monitor or display card error 1 long 3 short: Keyboard error 1 long 9 short: BIOS ROM error Continuous long beeps: DRAM error Continuous short beeps: Power error
You really aren't giving much info, so here are some beep - codes, also make sure nothing came loose on the motherboard or other components ( do this ONLY if you know how ) Safety first.

The beeps are probably BIOS beep error codes. Through a series of long and short beeps the computer communicates computer problems that occur early in the startup processes. It's likely the problem isn't your monitor but something in your computer box itself. If you can tell us what the pattern is we can start diagnosing your problem. We'll also need to know the manufacturers name, the specific model computer you have and what operating system you are running.
