I have exactly the same problem, the display has been giving trouble since I bought it 2 years ago, have tried to talk to HP and the shop where I bought it but HP have not been helpful. This seems like an issue with these as I've seen loads of forums, it's really unfair of HP to produce an inferior product, take our money and then run. Please let me know if you have any luck fixing your problemI have exactly the same problem, the display has been giving trouble since I bought it 2 years ago, have tried to talk to HP and the shop where I bought it but HP have not been helpful. Try Hp support center entering the model number remember HP in front. If no answer found there try replacing memory chip(s) Was there a problem with it keeping time just before it stopped working? Try replacing battery.
My HP flashes 3 times when my battery is dead. Because of this I'm guessing that the AC Adapter is not working properly because it should turn on even with the battery out as long as it's plugged in. Many power adapters have a light on the actual converter box, you want to take a look for that light. If it is on, there is a problem with the cable and/or the connections between that box and the computer. If it is off, try another outlet. If you've done all this troubleshooting I would probably recommend getting a replacement AC Adapter. They are specific to the computer so make sure you purchase the correct one. Last time I replaced one the cheapest I found one (Dell Inspiron 1525) was @ Amazon.com
Sounds like a burnt out capacitor. Either on motherboard or power supply. You can try taking out battery, press and hold power button for 5 seconds, put back in and try to turn on. If it doesn't turn on, then I'm afraid motherboard is bad or memory card is faulty
1. Remove the battery
2. Use only the power supply.
3. After the computer starts, put battery back in.
Power supply can't handle low battery & computer start up at the same time.
a simple power cycle might work. Take out the battery but keep the ac power connected. hold the poewr button down for 1 minute. then hit the power button again and it should poewr back up. If this doesn' t work. iyou said hte battery light flashes so the problem isnt the battery..the problem might be hte ac power adapter..if you have a warranty this would be a good time to call them. Try the power cycle first though this fixes the problems lots of the time
My solution (works every time) is to pull out the AC cord from back of computer. Then .. release the battery for several seconds only.
Push battery IN again. THEN (presto) Push power-up button. It starts normally, every time.
Then when you're ready just push the AC lead back in after it's started.
Don't ask me why it works. It just does. It's like it needs the battery power to be isolated briefly and then re-applied. It works.
I never bothered with warranty work. It's like an extra security feature. When it's off AC for a period -> that's the reliable starting method.
Also, computer may be in hibernation mode. Hold the power down until you see a boot up screen (i f you can get to it)
