Blank page i don't know how this works. when i close internet exlorer open window i get a blank page. it will not close down

Which version of Windows and Internet Explorer? The steps to fix it differ in the latest version.

If you mean the page that gives you your most visited pages -

1. Click the wrench icon in the upper right and go to Options
2. Under Basics, select "Open the home page"
3. Under Home page, select "Use the New Tab page"
4. Close the Options tab
5. Restart Chrome

This should give you the blank first page with the Most Visited sites listed. If they're not showing, make sure to click on the Most visited line to make the visible. If you don't see that either, look in the lower right for Most visited and click that to restore that line to the browser window.

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the General tab.
4. In the Address box, type the Web page address that you want for your home page.
   
   NOTE: If you want the page that you are currently viewing in Internet Explorer to be your home page, click Use Current.
5. Click OK.

FOR FIRE FOX

• At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the ToolsFirefox menu (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click OptionsFirefoxEdit menu, and select Options...Preferences...
• Select the General panel (Main panel in Firefox 3.5).
• In the Startup box click the drop-down menu next to "When Firefox starts:" and select what Firefox should display when it starts up.
• Show my home page - Displays the home page (or home pages of course).
• Show a blank page - Displays a blank page (this loads fast - no waiting for lots of tabs to load).
• Show my windows and tabs from last time - Opens the pages you were visiting the last time you used Firefox so you can continue right where you left off. Click OK to close the Options windowClick Close to close the Preferences windowClose the Preferences window .

I had the same problem with epc netbook I checked the DCHP box and rebooted and it worked

Here try this It is browsers dependent:
1.For Internet Explorer.

• Hold Down the "Windows Key+ R" on the keyboard it will open the run box. Or click on start then Run.
• Type in the run Box "inetcpl.cpl"
• Now you will find internet properties type at the below in the home page box the page you want as your home page and then click on Ok.

2.For Google Chrome.

When you open Google Chrome, it shows a default homepage containing "Most Visited" page list and Bookmarks history.
If you like a blank page as homepage or want to change the homepage to some other website, then this tutorial will help you:
1. Open Chrome Options.
2. Now you have 2 options to change Homepage:
Option A:
Select "Open the following pages" option in "On startup" section and click on "Add" button.
Now type about:blank in URL box to set homepage as blank or if you want to set it some other URL, then enter the full URL or select it from "Recently visited sites" list if present.
Click on "Add" button and then "Close" the options window.
Option B:
Select "Open this page" option in "Home page" section and enter about:blank in the text box to set the homepage to blank or enter your desired website URL.
That's it. Now close the options window.
3. Now you can enjoy your desired homepage in Chrome as I have set it to a blank page:

Open ie8 in inprivate mode and check if its faster.
open ie8 in safe mode. Goto Tools -> Manage Addons and disable Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper, or any other addon which u suspect.

try another browser, firefox or google chrome

i think windows mail if offline so check if it's connected it maybe working offiline

When you close out does it give you a message to "close all tabs. If so and you ok it will shut down everything that internet explorer is working on. When I/E is open and you want to close only the screen you are on look at the top of the page and you will see the tabs that are currently open and close them individually from there.
