Hi, To access or enter motherboard BIOS settings, on powerup either F2 or Del. If you just want to remove the password in your Dell Optiplex > The BIOS password may be cleared by removing the password jumper (PSWD) on the motherboard. This will also clear all CMOS settings: Open your casing, on your motherboard. find the CMOS password reset jumper (3-pin) on the motherboard; Remove the jumper from pins 1 and 2 and put it on pins 2 and 3 for about 5 seconds. Replace back the jumper on pins 1 and 2. Hope this be of help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.

    Hi again,

For a Dell OptiPlex GX270 PC Desktop, the Paswword Jumper is located near the power connector.

On not so recent versions of Dell, they use 3-pin terminals, however most newer models/versions use 2 2-pin terminals.

Below is a copy of the jumper settings from the User manual available athttp://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy...

    Cheers.

If you're planning on installing Windows, no drivers needed for the CD ROM.

  • Anonymous Sep 02, 2007

If you are connecting your HD and CD ROM in tandem in a single IDE flat cable, you have to set your HD to master and your CD ROM to Slave. Normally there are instructions on the label of the HD on what pins should a jumper be placed to enable it as master. Likewise at the rear at the CD ROM there would be 3 pairs of pins, the middle is usually jumpered to enable it as slave.

On first power on, go to your BIOS/CMOS and check if the motherboard has auto detected your HD & CD ROM.

My dell d610 is asking for a hdd password. what would it be there is no password for this computer?

HDD password? Is the laptop encrypted? Unless it s a system password set in the BIOS. You'll have to know what that is or reset it.
Reseting the BIOS requires taking apart the laptop and finding the CMOS battery and shorting it.

Hi, I have NEC Versa E6300 laptop. I had set its BIOS password long back but forgot now. I want it to boot from CD and need to change the option in BIOS. Can you please suggest, how can I reset this...

Hi Prajeet
To reset your BIOS password you need to call the NEC to give you a reset code. Most Computer manufacturers like DELL, HP do have password reset tool from their end. you just need to call them to ask for a reset code but expect to answer all security questions before they gave you the reset code.
Thanks for using Fixya.

Dell Laptop BIOS password recover

Hello

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

A reliable method can be found here:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/
look for Password recovery.

Try the backdoor password Dell

: all bios passwords can be removed easily,

: 1-create a dos system disk,
: 2- copy "debug" (this is a dos command found in windows\command directory) onto the system disk you created,
: 3- boot the machine with this disk,
: 4- at dos prompt type: debug then enter, you will see a blinking dash
: 5- type: o 70 2e then enter, (also seen: o 70 18)
: 6- type: o 71 ff then enter,
: 7- type: q then enter,
: 8- remove the floppy and reboot! Power the system off and on by unplugging and re-plugging the system into the power outlet

I have problem with the lock paswerd

If you have a BIOS level Password (Before Windows) contact Dell Tech support (800-624-9896 USA) confirm ownership and they can assist in clearing the password.

If it is a Windows Password, you will most likely have to either remember the password, boot to admin account in Safe mode (If XP Home) and change the password there, or reinstall windows

Bios default password

The BIOS default password is just blank, and it is not asked.

When you set a bios password, you are asked to enter a value, therefore if bios is asking the password, the password had been changed.

To reset the bios password if you do not know the password you need to access to motherboard and temporarily remove battery for few seconds.
Removing battery will reset bios and delete the password.
Unplug power cord before accessing the motherboard, and try not touching the motherboard with your finger.
Put battery back in place before restarting computer.
